AC’s Gillum is Region 2-4A Coach of the Year; Martin is Region MVP

Anderson County Mavericks Coach Davey Gillum was recognized as Coach of the Year in Region 2-4A, and junior quarterback Stanton Martin was named Most Valuable Player in the Region for 2017. The Offensive Assistant Coach of the Year was Anderson County Offensive Coordinator Sean Jesse.

The Kicker of the Year award in the 2017 All Region 2-4A Team went to Anderson County’s Clayton Utley, while Thomas Roberts and Trey Noe shared Offensive Lineman of the Year honors.

Making the All-Region First Team were linebacker Ryan Moog, running back and linebacker Mason Phillips, linebacker Marquise Gallaher, wide receiver and cornerback Dalton Wilson, wide receiver Michael Carroll, linebacker Andrew Hatmaker, safety Chris Powell, offensive lineman Anthony Barbera, offensive lineman Blake Chapman, and cornerback Austin Elliott. The All-Region 3-5A Football Team has been announced, and among those honored from Oak Ridge are Joe Gaddis, Jeff Miner, Johnny Stewart, Kai’Reese Pendergrass, and Isaac Quick.

Gaddis was named Coach of the Year, Miner was named Defensive Assistant of the Year, and Stewart was named Co-player of the Year. Pendergrass was named Defensive Back, and Quick was named Punter.

Oak Ridge players named to the First Team were Adarius Cox, Caleb Martin, T.J. Johnson, Cobe Angel, Jack Borchers, Ramar Hawkins, Jeremy Mitchell, Jacob Adams, Adarius Simpson, and Jaycen McGhee.

Sam McFarland of Oak Ridge was named to the Academic Team.

Roane State Community College’s women’s basketball program swept the top Tennessee Community College Athletic Association awards.

Head coach Monica Boles was named TCCAA Coach of the Year. Sophomore guard Shauntae Brown is the TCCAA Player of the Year, and Haley Cornellison is the Freshman of the Year.

Brown was also named first-team all-conference. Shauntae’s twin sister, Shanae, was named second-team all-conference along with sophomore Kassidi Freeman. [Read more…]

The All-District 3AAA football team for 2014 was announced last week as were individual postseason honors.

The Coach of the Year is Oak Ridge’s Joe Gaddis.

Anderson County’s Matt Fox was named Player of the Year, while Campbell County’s Ethan Jeffers was named Offensive Player of the Year and Gibbs’ Hunter Lane was named Defensive Player of the Year.

Lineman of the Year honors went to Oak Ridge’s Alex Alcorn, the D3AAA Newcomer of the Year was Oak Ridge’s Tee Higgins, and the Specialist of the Year was Oak Ridge’s Brandon Nickle. [Read more…]

David Scott returns to coach ORHS girls basketball

Oak Ridge High School athletic director Mike Mullins announced Friday that ORHS alumnus David Scott will return as the girls head basketball coach for the Lady Wildcats after a two-year hiatus. Scott replaces Karra Jackson, who posted a 29-29 record in her two seasons at the helm before leaving to become the head coach at Ryle High School in Union, Ky.

Scott, 49, was elevated to head coach at Oak Ridge after serving four years as an assistant under ORHS legend Jill Prudden, who compiled a 908-161 overall record, which included winning three state championships and six state runners-ups, a press release said.
