The second session of the Tennessee Valley Corridor Virtual Summit Series this afternoon (Thursday, July 23) will focus on Oak Ridge and Huntsville, and science and technology in the corridor.

Most of the TVC’s annual $75 billion in federal investments are made in the historic communities of Huntsville and Oak Ridge, a summit advisory said.

You can learn more about the federal missions based in the two cities and how they impact the nation and world during today’s session, the advisory said.

JOHNSON CITY—On Thursday, July 16, the Tennessee Valley Corridor will be celebrating its 25th anniversary and kicking off this summer’s Virtual Summit series.

Tennessee Valley Corridor shifts to online events this summer

The Tennessee Valley Corridor will shift its Annual Summit and 25th anniversary celebration to a series of online events this summer.

The change, which was announced this month, is being made as large summer conferences and gatherings remain in doubt because of social distancing recommendations from public health officials, a press release said.

The Annual Summit had been scheduled for July 15-16 at Milligan College in Johnson City.

But the Tennessee Valley Corridor will instead have people participate in a series of weekly Summit sessions for five consecutive weeks starting Thursday, July 16. Each session will highlight many of the same speakers, topics, and organizations, but the new virtual format aims to maximize participation during the continued COVID-19 crisis, the press release said.

Tennessee Valley Corridor Summit has presentations on energy, manufacturing, security

The Tennessee Valley Corridor National Summit in Oak Ridge in May will feature presentations on advanced manufacturing, clean energy and a nuclear renaissance, and national security and cyber security.

The 2018 TVC National Summit is scheduled from May 29-31 at the New Hope Center at the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge. It will be hosted by Oak Ridge Mayor Warren Gooch in cooperation with U.S. Representative Chuck Fleischmann.

Tennessee Valley Corridor returns to Huntsville for 2017 Summit

The Tennessee Valley Corridor, or TVC, will return to Huntsville, Alabama, to hold its yearly science and technology Summit from May 31 to June 1. The Summit, themed “Huntsville and the TVC: Smart. Innovative. Collaborative,” will be held at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center, or USSRC, and will be hosted by Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle and USSRC Chief Executive Officer Deborah Barnhart.

“The Tennessee Valley Corridor is home to some of the smartest minds on the planet and this annual summit draws the best and the brightest,” Mayor Battle said. “We look forward to an exciting and engaging exchange of ideas and opportunities.”

The Summit will convene more than 300 government, business, academic, and community leaders from the five-state region, which includes the 10 congressional districts in East and Middle Tennessee, North Alabama, Western North Carolina, Southwest Virginia, and Eastern Kentucky.

TVC honors Earl Gohl, Wayne Cropp for commitment to region

Two long-time supporters of the Tennessee Valley Corridor were presented the organization’s top award at the TVC’s National Summit held June 1-2 on the campus of Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville, Tennessee.

Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) Federal Co-Chair Earl Gohl and Chattanooga attorney J. Wayne Cropp were honored with the Corridor Champion Award in recognition of their leadership to enhance the TVC’s national visibility, high-tech economic development, and collaborative efforts within the five-state region, a press release said.

“Wayne Cropp chaired the TVC first two Summits in 1995 and 1996 in Oak Ridge and Chattanooga and has been an active leader since,” said Board Chair Steve Cope from Tullahoma. “He has been a true champion for our region’s efforts to promote its federal missions and to leverage those investments for high tech economic development. The registration deadline is quickly approaching for the annual Tennessee Valley Corridor National Summit, which will make its first visit to Cookeville on June 1-2. The Summit, themed “Where Entrepreneurs and Technology Meet,” will be held on the campus of Tennessee Tech University , and it is hosted by TTU President Phil Oldham in cooperation with Tennessee Congressman Diane Black.

Leaders from throughout the region will be at the event to focus attention on the vital role entrepreneurs provide in turning the brain power and technologies from the region’s universities and federal programs into new business start-ups and the expansion of existing businesses.

Registration for the annual Tennessee Valley Corridor Summit closes Monday. The summit will include a discussion of federal missions in Oak Ridge.

Organizers expect more than 300 national and regionals leaders at the 20th Annual Tennessee Valley Corridor Summit. It’s being held at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City on May 27-28. The Summit will be at the D.P. Culp University Center at ETSU.

The Tennessee Valley Corridor will hold its 20th Annual TVC National Summit in Johnson City at East Tennessee State University on May 27-28.

The Summit will be hosted by ETSU President Brian Noland, in cooperation with Congressman Phil Roe, with the theme “Education Fuels the TVC Economy.”

“From our region’s community colleges to our outstanding four-year universities, the Corridor has a strong foundation to prepare the next generation of the workforce,” Roe said. “As co-chairman of the Tennessee Valley Corridor Caucus, I look forward to sharing some of the work that is ongoing in Congress. CHATTANOOGA—Longtime Tennessee congressional staffer Helen Hardin and NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center received the top awards given by the Tennessee Valley Corridor during the organization’s annual national summit held last week on the campus of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

Hardin is senior policy advisory for Rep. Chuck Fleischmann, a Tennessee Republican, and she has been involved in the TVC’s activities since the first Summit was held in Oak Ridge in 1995. Todd May, manager for NASA’s space launch system program, accepted the award on behalf of MSFC.

The Corridor Champion Award recognizes individuals and organizations that provide leadership to enhance the TVC’s national visibility, high-tech economic development, and collaborative efforts within the region.

Past Corridor Champion Award winners include Fleischmann, U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander, former Federal Co-Chair of the Appalachian Regional Commission Anne Pope, the Tennessee Valley Authority, University of Tennessee, and the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge. [Read more…]

Representatives from the Y-12 National Security Complex, the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, and Stanley Healthcare signed a cooperative research and development agreement on Wednesday during the Tennessee Valley Corridor’s National Technology Summit at Y-12’s New Hope Center in Oak Ridge.

The three entities are sharing their expertise to fast-track commercialization of an intelligent interactive dashboard that can be used to increase efficiency in manufacturing, maintenance, or the service industry.
