The Oak Ridge Lady Wildcats had a blowout 67-23 win over Clinton at home on Thursday.
Oak Ridge (16-2, 4-1 District 3-AAA) outscored Clinton 25-1 in the first quarter and continued to outscore the Lady Dragons in the next three quarters.
The Lady Wildcats were led by senior guard Jada Guinn, who scored 22 points, including 12 in the second quarter.
Sophomore guard Khamari Mitchell-Steen added 15 points for Oak Ridge, including three three-point shots. [Read more…]

The Oak Ridge Lady Wildcats won two games in the Oak Ridge Invitational last week.
The girls’ softball team (5-8-1, 1-5 District 3-AAA) lost a district game to Clinton, 17-15, in the first game of the tournament on Thursday.
But the next day, on Friday, the girls beat Concord Christian 8-1 and Greenback 8-2.
Oak Ridge tied White County, a team from Sparta, 4-4 on Saturday.
The last three games were all non-district games.
The Lady Wildcats also won two of three games in a softball tournament in Oneida the weekend before the Oak Ridge Invitational. [Read more…]

The Lady Wildcats are now the only undefeated team in District 3-AAA after beating Campbell County, which had also been undefeated, at home on Tuesday. The final score was 47-31.
Campbell County only scored two points in the second quarter, and Oak Ridge (14-3, 8-0) had a 22-9 halftime lead.
But the Lady Cougars outscored Oak Ridge by 14-9 in the third quarter to narrow the lead to eight points.
But the Lady Wildcats then held Campbell County (15-4, 7-1) scoreless for the first several minutes of the fourth quarter to widen the lead. [Read more…]

The Clinton boys’ basketball team advanced to the second round of the District 3-AAA tournament in a 67-58 first-round win over the Gibbs Eagles at Central High School in Knoxville on Wednesday.
J’Quan Thomas led three double-digit scorers for the seventh-seeded Dragons, who will take on third-seeded Halls at 7:30 tonight (Thursday, February 12). The winner of tonight’s tilt will move on to the district semifinals Saturday at 6 p.m. against Karns and earn a berth in next week’s region tournament, while the loser’s season will be finished, WYSH Radio reported.
In the first game on Wednesday night, Gibbs’ girls closed out the Karns Lady Beavers, blowing open a close game in the third quarter on their way to a 50-37 win and a second-round matchup with the Oak Ridge Lady Wildcats that will tip off at 6 p.m. Thursday at Central.
Meanwhile, the Clinton girls’ basketball season ended in a Tuesday loss to Campbell County at Central. [Read more…]

Eleven miles is all that separates the bitter rivalry between the Oak Ridge Wildcats and the Clinton Dragons. However, since 1990 the rivalry has been nothing but Oak Ridge. For 57 straight games, Oak Ridge has bested Clinton on the basketball court, and Tuesday night was no different for the Wildcats and Lady Wildcats. Both teams went on to soundly defeat their opponents.
The Oak Ridge Lady Wildcats were the first matchup of the night. Clinton’s players and coaches were pumped up before and during the entire game, and it was obvious that they had upset on the mind. However, thanks to a strong fourth quarter, the Lady Wildcats were able to defeat the Lady Dragons by a solid score of 65-54.
Clinton actually jumped out to an early lead on Oak Ridge. With a little less than 5:20 left in the first quarter, the Lady Dragons had an 8-1 lead. However, the Lady Wildcats fought back to a 10-8 lead thanks to a three-pointer by Jasmine Hembry with 3:51 left in the first quarter. Hembry would finish with 14 points, which was second on the team. After fighting back and forth, Oak Ridge would score a basket with :20 seconds left, and the score after one quarter was 15-13. The Oak Ridge Lady Wildcat volleyball team took on district rival Clinton High School on Thursday night.
The Lady Wildcats beat the Lady Dragons in straight sets: 25-10, 25-22, and 25-15. They were led by seniors Rachel Card (#27), Mattie Livengood (#12), Sami Viau (#3), Emily Campbell (#30), and Rachel Loeffler (#21).
It was a well-played match, with contributions coming from all of the varsity players.

Clinton High School has a new girls’ basketball coach. Athletic Director Dan Jenkins said former Lady Dragon standout Alicia Phillips has been hired to succeed Tonya Lively-Snyder, who stepped down after 15 years on the bench last month.
During her illustrious high school career, Phillips (then Brown) set several school records. After graduating from Clinton, she received a scholarship to play softball for the University of Tennessee and played two seasons there, including an appearance in the Women’s College World Series.
She later transferred to Maryville College, where she continued her softball career and got back on the court for the Lady Scot basketball team. [Read more…]

Clinton High School girls’ basketball coach Tonya Lively-Snyder has resigned after 15 years on the bench.
The Lady Dragons are coming off a 4-20 season that saw them bow out of the first round of the District 3-AAA tournament. Since the 2001-02 season—the last for which reliable records are available—Clinton’s girls went 134-221.
Lively-Snyder’s best season at Clinton was the 2008-09 campaign, when her team led by future NAIA standouts Cody Houck and Amber Taylor went 22-9 and advanced to the regional tournament. [Read more…]
The Oak Ridge Lady Wildcats eliminated the Clinton Lady Dragon 51-37 in the first round of the District 3 basketball tournament at Powell on Tuesday.
The Clinton girls fell behind early and could not dig themselves out of the hole.
The Lady Wildcats (8-20, 6-10 in District 3) extended their win streak over the Lady Dragons (4-20, 3-13) to 54.
Oak Ridge will next play Anderson County (15-11, 12-3) at 6 p.m. Thursday in Powell.
