The Oak Ridge girls’ soccer team finished second in District 3-AAA, and the Lady Wildcats will play Farragut in a Region 2-AAA semifinal game today (Tuesday, October 17).

Today’s game is an elimination game, meaning the season is over for the loser. The winner will be guaranteed at least two more games, the Region 2-AAA championship and a Class AAA sectional game. The sectional games will determine which eight teams will play in the Class AAA state tournament.

The District 3-AAA tournament championship game was Thursday at Powell Middle School. Powell, the top seed in the district tournament, won 6-0. Oak Ridge was the number two seed.

It was the third year in a row that Oak Ridge (10-8-1, 3-1 District 3-AAA) and Powell (13-3-1, 4-0) played for the District 3-AAA championship—and the fourth time in five years. The Lady Wildcats won last year 2-0, and the Lady Panthers defeated Oak Ridge 1-0 in 2015.

Jeff Trombly has resigned as Oak Ridge boys’ and girls’ soccer coach.

The resignation was effective immediately, Oak Ridge High School Athletic Director Mike Mullins said Tuesday.

Assistant Coach Katrina Williams will be the interim girls’ soccer coach for the rest of the season, Mullins said.

A search for boys’ soccer coach will begin as soon as possible, Mullins said.

It’s not clear why Trombly resigned. Oak Ridge Today has not been able to reach Trombly for comment, but we will update this story when we can. [Read more…]

FARRAGUT—Even in defeat, Oak Ridge High School girls soccer coach Jeff Trombly was upbeat.

“Obviously, we want to win, but this is a game that we’ve been looking forward to,” Trombly said after his Lady Wildcats dropped a 2-0 decision to Farragut Wednesday night at Farragut Soccer Stadium. “This was a good test for us.

“This game is always a good test for us because it shows us where we’re at. I think we held up pretty well. And hopefully, we we’ll see them again down the road.”

Oak Ridge, which was 6-3-1 after the game, fell behind early when Lady Admirals junior Amy Cloud scored in the second minute of the non-district match.

Farragut, which was then 6-5, was dominant in the opening half, and the Lady Wildcats struggled to gain possession and sustain any pressure in their offensive third of the field. [Read more…]

The Oak Ridge Lady Wildcats soccer team has won its last four games, and the girls have won both of their district games this season.

The most recent win for the girls was a 2-1 victory at home against West on Tuesday. That was a non-district game.

Before that, the Oak Ridge girls won their last three games. Those were a 8-1 win at Heritage on August 30, a 3-1 victory at home against Grace Christian on August 29, and an 8-3 win at Campbell County, a district game, on August 22.

In their first district game on August 17, the Lady Wildcats (6-2-1, 2-0 District 3-AAA) beat Halls 8-0 at home.

Oak Ridge is playing at Farragut (5-5, 3-0 District 4-AAA) in a non-district game at 7 p.m. today (Wednesday, September 13).

The Oak Ridge girls soccer team shut out Halls 8-0 during the first home game of the regular season on Thursday.

The Lady Wildcats led 5-0 at halftime and scored three more goals in the second half.

Sophomore Maddie Peters, credited with five shots, scored first for Oak Ridge about eight minutes into the game. She fired a shot from the right side of the goal box, and it bounced in off the left upright.

About 13 minutes later, senior Zoe Van Hook passed the soccer ball across the field from right to left and freshman Katelyn Mattus kicked it into the left side of the net.

A minute later, Oak Ridge scored again when sophomore Katie O’Brien lofted a shot that bounced in off the hands of Halls goalkeeper Madison Wright. [Read more…]

Oak Ridge senior forward Austin Vinyard scored four goals and had one assist as the Wildcats advanced to the District 3-AAA soccer championship with a 6-0 semifinal win over Halls on Wednesday.

Vinyard, who signed to play soccer at Maryville College on Thursday, said he also had four goals in a game last season, but his four goals and an assist on Wednesday may be a career high.

Oak Ridge, the number one seed, will play Central, the number two seed, in the District 3-AAA championship game, which starts at 7 p.m. today (Friday, May 12) at the Oak Ridge Soccer Complex at Oak Ridge High School.

The Wildcats were undefeated in the district during the regular season, and they beat the Bobcats 2-1 on Monday, April 24. Central’s only district loss during the regular season was to Oak Ridge, according to records posted on CoachT.com.

Central advanced to the District 3-AAA championship with a 4-0 win over Powell on Wednesday. Oak Ridge and Central will both advance to the Region 2-AAA championship. [Read more…]

Oak Ridge will play Halls in a district tournament semifinal game at home today (Wednesday, May 10).

The District 3-AAA soccer tournament game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. at the Oak Ridge Soccer Complex.

Oak Ridge (11-4-2) was undefeated in District 3-AAA and was the top seed coming into the tournament, so the Wildcats had a bye until the semifinals.

The Red Devils (8-6) advanced to the semifinal by eliminating Clinton 5-0 in a first-round game on Friday and Anderson County 8-1 in a quarterfinal game on Monday.

In the other semifinal, Central, the number two seed, will play Powell, the number three seed, at Central at 7 p.m. today. Like Oak Ridge, Central also did not have to play in the district tournament until the semifinals.

Besides Clinton and Anderson County, Karns and Campbell County have also been eliminated from the district tournament. [Read more…]

The Wildcats will play at Maryville, a District 4-AAA team, at 7 p.m. today (Tuesday, May 2).

Because of a bad weather forecast for Thursday, the final regular-season home game against Farragut, also a District 4 team, has been moved to Wednesday. The Oak Ridge-Farragut game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Oak Ridge Soccer Complex at Oak Ridge High School. It will be Senior Night.

Oak Ridge Coach Jeff Trombly said senior Brent Robinson scored two goals against the Cougars on Monday. Seniors Masa Kato and Austin Vinyard had one each, and sophomore Cris Avila also scored. [Read more…]
