Dennis Martin Klender, age 54, of Andersonville, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 9, at the Methodist Medical Center.

He was born Oct. 17, 1958, in DuBois, Pa., the son of Matthew and Mary Eleene Burton Klender.

Mr. Klender loved nature and the outdoors. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and woodworking. Family was very important to Mr. Klender, and he and his wife cherished spending time with children and grandchildren. [Read more…]

Herman Goad James

Herman Goad James, age 94, of Oak Ridge, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 9, at his home.

He was born Dec. 28, 1918, in Braxton County, W.Va., the son of Newton N. and Elizabeth Carte James.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army. He came to Oak Ridge in 1958 from West Virginia.

Mr. James was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church and held position of the oldest membership. He retired from Union Carbide Nuclear Corporation, where he worked as a machine shop supervisor at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

James “Cranor” Elrod, age 94, of Oak Ridge, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 8, at his home.

He was born Nov. 16, 1918, in Alexandria, Tenn., the son of James Cranor Elrod Sr. and Ethel Marler Elrod.

Mr. Elrod retired from Martin Marietta Energy Systems, where he was a mechanical engineer at the X-10 plant. He was a long-time member of First Baptist Church, and he enjoyed playing golf. [Read more…]

Eileen Marie Mignogna, age 71, a resident of Oliver Springs, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 9, at Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge.

Mrs. Mignogna was born July 23, 1941, in Brooklyn, N.Y. She has lived in Oliver Springs for the past 20 years, moving to Tennessee in 1993.

She was a homemaker, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Reva Sue Cox Parrott, age 73, of Heiskell, passed away on Jan. 4 at Tennova Residential Hospice of Knoxville.

She was born on Dec. 11, 1939.

Reva Sue attended Clinton High School, then transferred to and graduated from Norris High School in 1958. She also attended the University of Tennessee.

She was a member of Deep Springs Baptist Church. She was also Past Matron of Coal Creek Chapter 226 Order of Eastern Star.

Douglas Alan Kwasnoski

Douglas Alan Kwasnoski, age 62, of Oak Ridge, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 2, at his home.

He was born Jan. 8, 1950, in Oak Ridge, the son of Theodore and Betty Robertson Kwasnoski.

Doug graduated from Oak Ridge High School and the University of Tennessee. In previous years, he was active with the Oak Ridge Jay Cee’s and played saxophone in the band, Soul Sanction. He enjoyed hunting and playing golf and was an avid University of Tennessee fan. Doug was a devoted caregiver for over 20 years to parents as their health began to fail.

Mike was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and uncle. He did a lot of charity rides with the Lost Brotherhood, Patriot Guard Riders, GWRRA, toy rides, and cancer rides. Edna Mable Mounce, age 80, of Clinton, passed away Friday, Jan. 4, at Methodist Medical Center.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Edna enjoyed collecting angels and dolls, and going to yard sales to find bargains. She enjoyed singing in church and was a member of Shultz Hollow Baptist Church in Lake City.

Leon C. Lough

Leon C. Lough, age 83, a resident of Oliver Springs, died Monday, Jan. 7, at the Life Care Center of Morgan County.

Mr. Lough was born Feb. 14, 1929, in Oliver Springs. Following his military discharge, he lived in Merrillville, Ind., for 30 years, moving back to Oliver Springs in 1985.

Leon was a retired iron worker and boilermaker. He retired from J&L Steel Inc. in Indiana following 30 years of employment. He was a member of Frost Bottom Missionary Baptist Church.

Mr. Lough served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. For his significant accomplishments and contributions to the U.S. Army, he received several medals, decorations, citations, and ribbons.

Betty L. Justice, age 74, a resident of Harriman, went home to be with the Lord, Jan. 6, at Tennova Residential Hospice in Halls.

Mrs. Justice was born Oct. 11, 1938 in Oliver Springs. She was a lifelong resident of this area.

Betty was a faithful Christian and a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. She enjoyed singing in the church choir. In addition to spoiling her grandchildren, her hobbies included quilting, doll making, computer games, and traveling.

Jo Anne Perrell Giles

Jo Anne Perrell Giles, age 80, passed away peacefully at NHC Health Care Center in Oak Ridge on Jan. 3. She is now at peace in the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, along with family and friends who have gone before her.

She was born Sept. 9, 1932, to Joseph and Isabell Haynes Perrell. Mrs. Giles has been a resident of Oak Ridge for 45 years and worked as a volunteer for many years as a Pink Lady. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Oak Ridge.
