Bessie Phillips

Bessie Phillips, age 100, a resident of New River, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday, Aug. 15, at the home of her son, Estel Phillips, in Wartburg.

Mrs. Phillips was born in a log home on Jan. 7, 1912, in New River. She watched our country change and witnessed automobiles, electricity, plumbing, the railroad, and other improvements come to New River.

Thomas E. “Tommy” Miller

Mr. Thomas E. “Tommy” Miller passed away Tuesday, Aug. 14.

He was born in Johnson City on Dec. 29, 1945. The Miller family moved to Oak Ridge in 1949.

He grew up hunting, fishing, and playing sports. He was an Eagle Scout and Explorer Scout with the local Boy Scouts troop. Mr. Miller graduated from Oak Ridge High School in 1964.

Thomas Clifton Tucker, 81, of Oak Ridge, passed away Aug. 14.

Born in Chicago, he graduated from the University of Illinois in chemical engineering. After accepting a position at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, he earned a master’s in mathematics from the University of Tennessee.

Ilena “Guess” Crossno, age 82, a resident of Oliver Springs, passed away Saturday, Aug. 11, at her home.

Mrs. Crossno was born Feb. 20, 1930, in Elizabethton, Tenn. She moved to Oak Ridge in 1951, and following a stroke in 2005, she moved to Oliver Springs to make her home with a daughter, Brenda Duncan.
