Vera M. Jones, age 91, a resident of Coalfield, passed away Saturday, Aug. 11, at NHC of Oak Ridge.
Mrs. Jones was born June 26, 1921, in Morgan County. She lived in Coalfield for most of her life, but she also lived in Byrdstown, Tenn., for five years.
Before her retirement in 1986, she was employed at the K-25 Federal Plant in Oak Ridge. Her hobbies included flower gardening, quilting, and crocheting.
She was a member of the Oliver Springs Church Of Christ.
Vera was preceded in death by her parents, Julian McCartt and Nora Dean Robbins McCartt; by sons, Raymond Hicks, and Johnny and Jimmy Jones; by brothers, Nonis Robbins and Maurice Clay McCartt; and by sisters, Mary McCartt, Madelyn Dickey, and Judith Phillips.
Vera is survived by daughters, Janice Earlene Sisson and husband Warren of Oak Ridge, Emma Dee Jackson and husband Terry of Oliver Springs, Marjorie Mayton and husband Paul of Coalfield, and Carolyn Roberts of Coalfield; by grandchildren, Anthony Warren “Tony” Sisson of Oak Ridge, Gregory Mark Jackson and wife Crystal of Oliver Springs, Paul T. Mayton and wife Carrie of Oak Ridge, Paula Jean Mayton of Coalfield, Thomas Roberts and companion Shannon of Coalfield, and by Dexter Jones of Claxton; and by nine great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, Aug. 14, between 6 and 8 p.m. at Sharp Funeral Home. The funeral will follow at 8 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Bruce Holt and Richard Powlus officiating.
Burial and graveside services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 15, at 11 a.m. at the Estes Cemetery in Coalfield.
