Emory Valley Center fundraiser features Boys’ Night Out on Friday
The Emory Valley Center of Oak Ridge is having a fundraiser from 6:30 to 10 p.m. on Friday to raise money for a campaign to replace the current building on Emory Valley Road. The fundraiser will feature a barbeque dinner and performance by Boys’ Night Out at Buddy’s Banquet Hall in Knoxville.
Emergency road closure at Robertsville Road today
The city has temporarily closed Robertsville Road at Jefferson Avenue to replace a water line.
The Oak Ridge Public Works Department has issued an emergency road closure notice for Robertsville Road at Jefferson Avenue beginning today and lasting through Monday. A short detour will be visible to traffic.
Workers are replacing an eight-inch water line that runs underneath the road, said Scott Jackson, Oak Ridge Public Works operations manager.
Convention and Visitors Bureau has open house Thursday
The Oak Ridge Convention and Visitors Bureau is hosting an open house to celebrate National Tourism Week on Thursday. Join them for light refreshments between 3 and 5 p.m.
Water safety instructor course starts May 16
The Oak Ridge Recreation and Parks Department is offering an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor class starting May 16. After successfully completing this course, the participant will be able to teach American Red Cross water classes.
Anderson County Farm Bureau ribbon-cutting on Thursday
Anderson County Farm Bureau invites Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce members to an open house on Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The ribbon-cutting, which will be held at 12:15 p.m., is to celebrate the company’s new location in Manhattan Place Shopping Center.

Aftah Party performs in Oak Ridge on Friday night
Aftah Party will perform Friday in the second show of the Secret City Sounds concert series at A.K. Bissell Park. The show begins at 7 p.m.
This ten-piece band, formed by brothers Ken and Keith Brown and their longtime friend Melvin Ellis, will be playing a mixture of funk, soul, hip-hop, jazz, and rock at the park’s pavilion.
Sound Company’s spring performance this weekend
Sound Company will perform its spring show at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, May 11 and 12.
The show, “One World, One Voice“, will be at The Grove Theater at High Places Church. There will also be a school showing on Friday morning at 9:30 a.m.
Rotary Club raises community funds May 19
The Rotary Club of Oak Ridge will host an evening of dinner and dancing on Saturday, May 19, to raise funds for community projects and nonprofit organizations. The fundraiser, called the Community Fund Event, starts at 6 p.m. at the DoubleTree Hotel.
Emergency Preparedness Fair in Clinton on Saturday
There is a free Anderson County Emergency Preparedness Fair from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Clinton Community Center.
The fair brings together government and civic organizations, emergency management staff, and volunteers from Anderson County to give people, businesses, and communities an opportunity to better prepare for disaster.
There will be booths and classes that discuss disaster management, emergency communication plans, and food and water storage.

Oak Ridge continues its second week of brush pickup Monday. The schedule for the coming week is as follows.
Ballroom dancing on Mondays in Oak Ridge
The Midtown Community Center hosts ballroom dancing every Monday at 6:30 p.m. in the Wildcat Den Room. Free lessons are available from 6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., and the dancing continues until 8:30 p.m. On live band nights, the music plays until 9:00 p.m.
Admission is $3 on regular Mondays and $6 on live band nights. There is a variety of music from big band to the ’70s, with a little “country” added to the mix.
