Edgar Ray Sutton, age 85, of Knoxville, passed away Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, at Signature Health Care of Rogersville.

He was the son of Fred H. and Winnie Mae Sutton.

Mr. Sutton retired in 1983 from the Oak Ridge school system, where he served as principal at Woodland Elementary School. He also sold real estate for a short time and worked with ETHRA. He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Oak Ridge and had served as deacon. He enjoyed researching family history and genealogy, and he was a Bible scholar. [Read more…]

Angie Duncan Richardson, age 40, of the Marlow community, passed away Friday, Dec. 6, 2013.

She was preceded in death by her father, William “Bill” Duncan, Lester Walker; grandparents, John and Ilena Crossno, and Rose and Herbert Cleveland; and siblings, Shannon Chaika and Jana Chaika.

She is survived by her son, Sean Richardson, Jr. (Alex Foust); grandson, Kolton Richardson; fiancé, Mark Davis; step-daughter, Madeline Davis; mother, Brenda Duncan and stepfather, Timmy Bailey; Sean’s father, Sean Richardson Sr.; Sean’s great-grandmother, Nita Sullivan; Angie’s siblings, Angie Roelle, Danny Chaika, LeeAnn Edwards, Wayne Duncan and wife Beth, Melissa Duncan, Jessica Duncan Landers and husband Brad, and Rachael Duncan; nephews, Ty Landers and Chance Leinart; and niece, Breeanna Duncan.

Treī-Roan Ryan Vann

Treī-Roan Ryan Vann, age 8, of Oak Ridge went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013.

Treī-Roan was born July 25, 2005, in Newport News, Va., the son of Crist Alvin Vann Jr. and his biological mother Angelia Myers.

He was in the third grade at Linden Elementary School, where his favorite subjects were science and social studies. More than anything, Treī-Roan loved to learn. It did not matter about what, if someone was willing to teach he wanted to learn.

He was a member of Cub Scout Pack #226 out of Linden. He enjoyed reading, collecting, and working with Legos, video games, and playing soccer, and he played football at the Boys and Girls Club of Oak Ridge, where he was on the defensive line. He was always a very thoughtful and compassionate young man who was always willing to lend a helping hand. Wilma was a member of Community Missionary Baptist Church. She loved listening to gospel music, playing games, fishing, old cars, flower gardening, and being with her family especially her grandchildren.

Cecil Louise Ivy, age 94, a resident of Oliver Springs, departed her earthly walk and entered into eternal rest on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, at her home.

Mrs. Ivy was born on April 29, 1919, in Eldorado, Kansas. She lived most of her life in Los Angeles, Calif., before moving to Oliver Springs.

She was blessed with a good education, and before her retirement she was employed for many years with both the Los Angeles County and Los Angeles City Health Departments.

She loved working and taking care of her family. In her leisure, she could be found fishing with family and friends. [Read more…]

Dayton C. King Sr., 89, of Oak Ridge, passed away on Dec. 2, 2013.

He was born to parents Carl Joseph and Loucreta Maples King on Jan. 31, 1924, in Maryville.

Dayton retired from Oak Ridge National Laboratory as a chemical operator. He was a member of First Baptist Church, where he enjoyed participating with the Agape Center, and he enjoyed working in his yard.

He was preceded in death by wife of 61 years, Edith Catherine King, on Aug. 21, 2006.  [Read more…]

William Bowen Luzader Sr.

William Bowen Luzader Sr., age 90, of Oak Ridge, passed away Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013, at Select Specialty at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville.

He was born Nov. 27, 1923 in Berlin, W.V., the son of Noah Lee and Madge Bowen Luzader.

He proudly served with the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Seabee with the 133rd Construction Battalion in the Pacific Theater.

Mr. Luzader retired from Martin Marietta Energy Systems, where he worked as a chemist at the K-25 plant.

As a longtime member of Kern Memorial United Methodist Church, his life was guided by an unbending faith in God and Jesus Christ as his Savior. He was also a member of the Oak Ridge Lions Club, where he had served twice as past president of the Volunteer Blind Industries in Morristown. [Read more…]

Dale Jones Boatman, age 73, of Corryton, passed away Monday, Dec. 2, 2013, at her home.

She was born Aug. 10, 1940, in Black Mountain, N.C., the daughter of Arthur and Iona Johnson Sneed.

Mrs. Boatman retired from Oak Ridge Associated Universities, where she was an accounting assistant. After retirement, she worked as a cashier at the Midway IGA in Corryton.

She was a member of Black Oak Heights Baptist Church of Knoxville. Mrs. Boatman was an avid animal lover and enjoyed traveling and cooking. [Read more…]

William Eston Shockley

William Eston Shockley, age 85, of Oak Ridge, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013, at his home.

He was born Dec. 30, 1927 in Sparta, Tenn., the son of Eston and Blossom Gist Shockley.

Mr. Shockley retired from Oak Ridge National Laboratory, where he worked for 43 years as a senior engineering technologist at the X-10 plant.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church. In years past, he was a commodore of the Oak Ridge Boat Club, member of the Elks Clubs, and a coach with the Oak Ridge Boys Club. He was a member of the American Society of Certified Engineering Technicians and one of the named inventors on four separate patents. [Read more…]

Sybil, fondly known as Mimmy, was a longtime member of Grace Baptist Church and the Fidelis Sunday School Class. Her loving husband of 58 years, Jim, was always by her side during her many health struggles.

Thomas Edward Diggs, age 81, a resident of Oliver Springs, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013, at his home.

Mr. Diggs was born Jan. 7, 1932, in Oliver Springs. He was a lifelong resident of this area.

Following his high school graduation, Mr. Diggs entered into the U.S. Army and served his country in the Korean War. While serving, he received several medals, citations, badges, and commendations, including the Korean Service Medal with Two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. After his military discharge, he entered into the U.S. Army Reserve and continued serving his country until he received a U. S. military retirement.

He received both civil and mechanical engineering degrees from the University of Tennessee. He began employment at Martin-Marietta and retired in 1991 as a civil engineer, following 30 years of service. [Read more…]
