William Bowen Luzader Sr.

William Bowen Luzader Sr., age 90, of Oak Ridge, passed away Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013, at Select Specialty at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville.

He was born Nov. 27, 1923 in Berlin, W.V., the son of Noah Lee and Madge Bowen Luzader.

He proudly served with the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Seabee with the 133rd Construction Battalion in the Pacific Theater.

Mr. Luzader retired from Martin Marietta Energy Systems, where he worked as a chemist at the K-25 plant.

As a longtime member of Kern Memorial United Methodist Church, his life was guided by an unbending faith in God and Jesus Christ as his Savior. He was also a member of the Oak Ridge Lions Club, where he had served twice as past president of the Volunteer Blind Industries in Morristown.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister, Adena Queen, and by a son, Karl Bennett Luzader in 1981.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty Harding Luzader; son, William B. Luzader Jr., and wife Carolyn of Oak Ridge; daughters, Barbara Broomall and husband James of Newark, Del., and Karen Eskew and husband John of Columbia, Md.; grandchildren, James Broomall and wife Matisha Wiggs of Amelia Island, Fla., William B. Luzader III of Knoxville, Rebecca Gail Yeager of Naugatuck, Conn., John Kemp of Strawberry Plains, Robert Kemp and wife Melissa of Clinton, and Jason Kemp and wife Ashley of Midtown; great-grandchildren, Simon Benedict Broomall, Mason Yeager, Leann Luzader, Megan Harkness and husband Brandon, Trevor Kemp and Layken Kemp; great-great grandchildren, Marlee and Thomas Harkness; nephews, Richard Lemons and Robert Queen; and great-great nephew, Jacob Carroll.

The family will receive friends Thursday, Dec. 5, from 6–8 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary. The funeral is Friday at 11 a.m. at Kern Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Don Morris officiating. The burial will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.

The family asks that any memorials be made in his memory to Kern Memorial United Methodist Church, 451 E. Tennessee Avenue, Oak Ridge, TN 37830.
