Doris “Dot” Dean Barnard

Doris “Dot” Dean Barnard, age 76, of Oak Ridge, passed away Sunday, Dec. 16, at Briarcliff Health Care Center.

She was born Sept. 25, 1936, in Columbia County, Ark., the daughter of Nellie and Walker Barnett.

Mrs. Barnard attended Batley Baptist Church and Poplar Creek Baptist Church. In younger years, she was active with a CB Club and was known as Candy Cane. She enjoyed painting, crocheting cooking, playing the piano, singing, and flower arranging. She also enjoyed working in her yard and was known for her skills in landscaping.

Clarence Edward Turpin, age 77, a resident of Nashville, passed away Friday, Dec. 14, at the Southern Hills Medical Center in Nashville.

Clarence was born Dec. 7, 1935, in the Wheat Community of Roane County.

He entered into the U.S. Navy on July 29, 1955, and served his country for 20 years, retiring in 1975. Following his basic training in San Diego, he was stationed on an aircraft carrier, USS Kitty Hawk. While serving, he received several medals, citations, ribbons, and awards and he served during the Vietnam War.

After his military discharge, he lived in East Tennessee, Ohio, and most recently in Nashville.

Carolyn Joyce Stair

Carolyn Joyce Stair, age 72, of Knoxville, passed away Thursday, Dec. 6, at Holston Health and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born March 27, 1940, in Thornhill, Tenn., the daughter of Von and Opal Hurst Farmer.

Mrs. Stair was a parishioner of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Columbus, Ohio, and attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Church when in Knoxville.

She graduated from the University of Tennessee and was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority.

Mrs. Stair was the owner/operator of the Small Fry Boutique in Uptown Westerville, Ohio, where the family resided for more than 30 years. As a teen and young adult, Mrs. Stair worked with her mother at the Nettie Lee Shop in Oak Ridge.

Bernadine Eleanor Elizabeth Moorehead

Bernadine Eleanor Elizabeth Moorehead, age 90, of Oak Ridge, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 5, at Methodist Medical Center.

She was born in Denver, Colo., on Aug. 14, 1922, to parents Francis and Lucille Ames Hynes.

She was a homemaker in Texas for many years before moving to Oak Ridge in 2011. Bernadine was a woman of great faith and she loved the Catholic Church. In recent years, she was unable to make it to Mass but faithfully watched services on television. She had a personality larger than herself and loved to make people laugh.

Audrey was born Jan. 12, 1964, in Oliver Springs. She was a lifelong resident of this area.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Zona Tuck Hall.

She was a homemaker, a mother, a grandmother, and a member of Beech Park Baptist Church.

Charlie Roach, age 87, of Clinton, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Dec. 6, at NHC Healthcare in Oak Ridge.

Charlie was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather. He enjoyed the holidays with his family. Charlie was an avid fox hunter all his life, loved his hound dogs and his hunting buddies. He enjoyed sports, especially baseball.

He was a veteran of the United States Navy during World War II. Charlie retired from Clinton Utilities Board after 45 years.

Nancy Jarvis Hudson

Nancy Jarvis Hudson, “Nan” to those who knew and loved her, entered eternal life on Dec. 1, following a courageous 14-month journey with pancreatic cancer.

Nan was born Feb. 26, 1955, in Oak Ridge, where she lived most of her life. She was the daughter of Evelyn Fitzwater Jarvis and Gerald Melvin Jarvis, who pre-deceased her.

As a child, Nan lived in the Woodland community, where she had many fond memories of adventures with her childhood friend, Karen Pruett. Nan was a 1973 graduate of Oak Ridge High School.

Nan was a paralegal in the real property department at the law firm of Joyce, Meredith, Flitcroft, and Normand, where she had worked for almost 15 years. In July 2012, she was specially honored by the law firm for her years of great service.

Pamela Sue Turner, age 44, a resident of Oliver Springs, passed away Thursday, Dec. 6, at Park West Medical Center in Knoxville.

Pamela was born Aug. 31, 1968, in Chapel Hill, N.C. She moved to Oliver Springs in 1971 and later graduated from the Oliver Springs High School in 1987. Following her high school graduation, she became a chef and worked at the Bel-Air Grill.

Ms. Turner was preceded in death by her parents, Kirby Turner and Julia Taylor Turner, and by a special friend, Jordy Phillips.

Lora Lavonne Phipps, age 80, of Oak Ridge, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 4, at Methodist Medical Center.

She was born April 30, 1932, in Newton, Miss., the daughter of Jasie and Glover Hill.

She was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, where she was active in the Guiding Light Circle and the Senior Choir. She was also active in the NADA (Nine Adults Dedicating Assistance) Club, where she served as treasurer and volunteered as a poll worker at the City Hall District.

Mrs. Phipps enjoyed reading, fishing, sewing, and water aerobics. She was well-known in the Scarboro Community for her pound cakes. She retired as a lab technician from Martin Marietta Energy Systems, X-10.

Doyle Cook, age 54, of Clinton, passed away Sunday, Dec. 2, at his residence.

He loved his wife, children, and grandchildren. Doyle also loved fishing and playing guitar. He was a member of Jarnigan Chapel Baptist Church in Clinton.

Doyle was preceded in death by his father, Boyd Cook; brother, Brownlow Cook; sister, Magaline Cook; and granddaughter, Layla Fayth Dotson.

Paul Edmond Duncan, age 73, a resident of the Marlow community of Anderson County, passed away Sunday, Dec. 2, at Methodist Medical Center.

Mr. Duncan was born April 16, 1939, in Campbell County. The Duncan family moved to the Marlow community of Anderson County following the second World War in the mid 1940s.

Paul owned and operated A&A Painting before his retirement. He enjoyed fishing and watching football and was a member of Batley Baptist Church.
