Clarence Edward Turpin, age 77, a resident of Nashville, passed away Friday, Dec. 14, at the Southern Hills Medical Center in Nashville.
Clarence was born Dec. 7, 1935, in the Wheat Community of Roane County.
He entered into the U.S. Navy on July 29, 1955, and served his country for 20 years, retiring in 1975. Following his basic training in San Diego, he was stationed on an aircraft carrier, USS Kitty Hawk. While serving, he received several medals, citations, ribbons, and awards and he served during the Vietnam War.
After his military discharge, he lived in East Tennessee, Ohio, and most recently in Nashville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles C. Turpin and Anna Jo Wallace Turpin; by his wife, Misao Turpin; by sisters, Betty Jo Turpin, Ida Frances Pride, and Mona Faye Turpin; by brothers, Roy Allen Turpin and Herbert Lee Turpin; and by a sister-in-law, Yoshiko Turpin.
He is survived by a brother, Charles Calvin Turpin Jr. and wife Janie of Harriman; by sisters, Sarah Kathryn Turpin and Martha Alice Turpin of Kingston; and by several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and special friends, including his companion and caregiver, Barbara J. Archer of Nashville.
The family will receive friends Monday, Dec. 17, between 6 and 8 p.m. at Sharp Funeral Home. Graveside services, with full military honors, will be held Tuesday, Dec. 18, at 2 p.m. at the Orchard View Cemetery with Pastor Jeff Hughes officiating.
