Charlie Hensley has announced he is seeking re-election to Oak Ridge City Council on Nov. 6.

First elected in 2007, Hensley is one of three incumbents seeking re-election this fall. The election also includes two other candidates, Trina Baughn and Kelly Callison.

Hensley is a retired engineer who represents the City Council on the Oak Ridge Municipal Planning Commission.

In a press release, he describes himself as an active, involved citizen of Oak Ridge since 1968 and a proven “can-do” leader who considers his Council job to be “an honor, a full-time job, and a position of trust.”

Hensley said he has sought to produce and implement real ideas and solutions to Oak Ridge issues.

“Charlie listens and values others input and seeks to be aware, on a daily basis, of current and ongoing progress and problems,” the press release said. “Charlie also clearly understands that it is the right of every Oak Ridge citizen to know where their tax dollars are spent and why city government decisions are made.”

Hensley said he plans to submit information to the local media during the campaign to help Oak Ridgers better understand his position on current city issues and assets. Among the topics he plans to discuss are the need for retail and commercial revitalization and growth, property taxes and city debt and ways to control and reduce both, environmental stewardship, the quality of life in Oak Ridge, schools education and support, and a community vision and plan.
