Agle, Fillauer re-elected to Oak Ridge Board of Education

Angi Agle and Keys Fillauer, the two incumbents on the Oak Ridge Board of Education, have been re-elected to four year-terms, according to unofficial election results in Anderson and Roane counties.

Agle received the most votes, a total of 7,830 in the two counties. She earned 6,643 in Anderson County and 1,187 in Roane County.

Fillauer, the current school board chair, collected 7,196 between the two counties. He had 6,049 votes in Anderson County and 1,147 in Roane County.

A third candidate, Myra Mansfield, finished with about 1,800 votes fewer than Fillauer, or 5,686. She received 4,657 in Anderson County and 729 in Roane County. [Read more…]

Reminder: Roane County Candidate Forum tonight in Oak Ridge

Reminder: There will be a Roane County Candidate Forum in Oak Ridge tonight. The forum starts at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 19, in the Oak Ridge Civic Center A/B Room.

Those who have been invited to participate are candidates for property assessor, road superintendent, County Commission District 6, School Board District 5/6, Ninth Judicial District Criminal Court judge, and Part One General Sessions judge.

Residents of Roane County can vote early from July 15 to July 30 at the First Christian Church, 100 Gum Hollow Road in Oak Ridge. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. [Read more…]

Voter Registration Month

The League of Women of Voters of Oak Ridge will present two forums featuring candidates on the ballots in the August 4 elections in Anderson and Roane counties. The first forum, featuring candidates for Anderson County Commission, District 8, is tonight (Thursday, July 14).

Tonight’s forum will be held at the Oak Ridge campus of Roane State Community College in Room-111. It starts at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 14.

Three candidates are running to fill the unexpired term of Robin Biloski, who resigned from her District 8 in Oak Ridge in August 2015. The three candidates are Myra Mansfield, Angeleque McNutt, and Phil Yager. McNutt was appointed to the seat by Anderson County Commission in August, and that appointment was to last through the county’s general election this August.

District 8 includes the Emory Valley, Hendrix Creek, and Woodland voting precincts in Oak Ridge. [Read more…]

Last weekend of early voting

Early voting ends Nov. 1, and this weekend is the last weekend to cast ballots early at local polling stations for the Nov. 6 election.

Tennessee officials said voters continued their strong early turnout Wednesday, with more than 100,000 voters again casting ballots. As of Wednesday, more than 700,000 voters had already cast their ballots in seven days.

“I am pleased with the turnout we have seen during this first week of early voting,” Secretary of State Tre Hargett said. “I expect turnout to remain strong as we approach the end of early voting next week.”

In Oak Ridge, members of the Oak Ridge Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. voted early.

“We wanted to demonstrate the importance of voting, especially early voting by ‘strolling to the polls,'” chapter member Arnetha Johnson said.

In Anderson County, early voting hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays.

Anderson County voters can cast ballots at the Clinton Community Center at 101 Hicks St. in Clinton, Midtown Community Center at 102 Robertsville Road in Oak Ridge, and North Anderson County Government Office at 3310 Andersonville Highway in Norris.

In Roane County, early voting hours are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays.

Early voting locations in Roane County are Rockwood Community Center at 710 N. Chamberlain Ave. in Rockwood, Harriman Community Center at 631 Clinch St. in Harriman, and Roane County Courthouse at 200 E. Race St., Suite 8 in Kingston, and First Christian Church at 100 Gum Hollow Road in Oak Ridge.
