The softball season is over for the Oak Ridge Lady Wildcats, but coaches and players are proud of the effort in their last game, a 1-0 district tournament loss to Anderson County on Monday.

Oak Ridge, the number eight seed in District 3-AAA, played into the district tournament with a 14-2 win over Campbell County, the number nine seed, at home on Tuesday, May 2.

The Lady Wildcats then had to play Powell in a District 3-AAA quarterfinal at Halls. Powell was the top seed in the district tournament and undefeated in District 3-AAA during the regular season, with a 16-0 record.

Oak Ridge Coach Nelson Glover said the girls were outmatched against the Lady Panthers, and they lost 15-0 on Wednesday, May 3.

That loss bumped Oak Ridge into the losers bracket of the district tournament on Monday, May 8, also at Halls. [Read more…]

Oak Ridge played into the District 3-AAA softball tournament with a 14-2 win over Campbell County at home on Tuesday.

It was the play-in game between the eighth and ninth seed in the district. Oak Ridge, the number eight seed in District 3-AAA, will now play Powell, the number one seed, in a first-round district tournament game at 6 p.m. today (Wednesday, May 3) at Halls.

Campbell County (6-15, 0-11 District 3-AAA) was the number nine seed and will not play in the district tournament.

The play-in game on Tuesday ended after four innings because of a run rule. If there is agreement, those games end when one team is up by 15 runs after three innings, 12 runs after four innings, or 10 runs after five innings.

The Lady Wildcats (12-16-1, 3-13) also beat the Lady Cougars twice during the regular season, with both games in April.

“I thought we finally hit our stride offensively,” Oak Ridge Coach Nelson Glover said after the Tuesday night play-in win. “We did what we were supposed to do against this team.” [Read more…]

Here is the 2017 Oak Ridge High School softball schedule.

As of Saturday, the softball team was 1-1 (1-0 in District 3-AAA).

Oak Ridge defeated Knox Central 6-5 on Thursday at Fountain City Park in a district game, said Nelson Glover, Oak Ridge softball coach. Seniors Jenna Murphy and Kelsey Benjamin provided multiple hits along with timely extra base hits from Bailey Watkins (sophomore), Hannah Tobler (junior), and Kaitlan Paine (senior).

Junior pitcher Caroline Tobler picked up her first win, pitching three scoreless innings to close out the game, Glover said.

The Oneida tournament in which the Cats were scheduled to play three games on Saturday, March 18, will be postponed until March 25, with games to be announced, Glover said.
