David Gilbert Gosslee

David Gilbert Gosslee, 91, of Clinton, passed away on Dec. 12, 2013, at Briarcliff Health Care Center in Oak Ridge.

David was born to parents Gilbert Leslie Gosslee and Ameilia Fredrich Leonard Gosslee on June 22, 1922, in Fargo, N.D.

He was a veteran with the Army Air Corp during World War II.

As a member of First United Methodist Church in Oak Ridge, he enjoyed church activities, especially dealing with the shut-ins, as he delivered the bulletins to them at their homes.

He was a Fellow of the American Association of the Advancement of Science and the American Statistical Society, as he retired from Martin Marietta Energy Systems as a statistician. [Read more…]

Clifton “Ray” McGinnis

Clifton “Ray” McGinnis, age 84, of Knoxville and formerly of Oak Ridge, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013, at Parkwest Medical Center.

He was born July 22, 1929, in Thorn Hill, Tenn., the son of Sally Kate Coffey and Lloyd McGinnis.

Mr. McGinnis retired after 35-plus years from the Y-12 plant, where he was a standards lab manager. He was a longtime member of Central Baptist Church and met regularly with his friends at the Wednesday morning breakfast. He enjoyed woodworking and refinishing antique furniture and playing golf. He enjoyed helping others and always extended a helping hand when the need was there. [Read more…]

Ember Lee St. John, the infant daughter of Charles Lee “CL” St. John and Brittany Kinser St. John of Oak Ridge, went to heaven on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013, at Ft. Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville.

In heaven, she was greeted by her paternal grandmother, Sue Helen St. John, who preceded her in death.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by a sister, Wakley Grace Kinser of Oak Ridge; by her paternal grandfather, Thomas St. John of Oliver Springs; by maternal grandparents, Mike Kinser of Loudon, and Jackie Cooper and husband Rick of Lenoir City; by an uncle, Shannon Kinser of Johnson City; and by a aunt, Angie Blankenship of Lenoir City. James Brian Shultz

James Brian Shultz, age 50, a resident of Oliver Springs, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center, following an automobile accident.

Brian was born Jan. 27, 1963, in Columbus, Miss. He and his family moved to Tennessee in 1981, where he had continued to live.

Before his disability, Brian was employed as a warehouse operator for 15 years at Cardinal Health Inc. of Knoxville.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Roy Andy Shultz and Naomi Ollis Shultz; by his maternal grandparents, Mose and Flossie Duncan; and by an aunt, Lorene Duncan. [Read more…]

Kyle Edward Miller, age 88, of Oak Ridge, passed away Monday, Dec. 9, 2013, at his home.

He was born March 24, 1925, in Knoxville, the son of Arthur Bryan Miller Sr. and Virginia Louise Warwick Miller.

Mr. Miller served his country in the U.S. Army. He retired from Elm Grove Market, where he was a meat cutter. He was a member of Kern Memorial United Methodist Church.

Mr. Miller enjoyed gardening and was an avid fan of the UT VOLS and the Atlanta Braves. [Read more…]

Faye Martin Jones, age 79, of Oliver Springs, passed away Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, at her home after a 10-year battle with Alzheimer’s.

She was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church in Oak Ridge and, in later years, joined Kellytown Baptist Church. She was a faithful supporter of her grandchildren, being actively involved in their lives. She was delighted with the birth of each and every great-grandchild and enjoyed so many precious moments with them. Faye inherited her mama’s “sweet tooth” and never turned down her mini ice cream sandwiches!

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert “Ab” Jones; parents, Georgia and Joseph Jones, and Fred Martin; and baby brother, Jimmy Martin. [Read more…]

Edgar Ray Sutton, age 85, of Knoxville, passed away Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, at Signature Health Care of Rogersville.

He was the son of Fred H. and Winnie Mae Sutton.

Mr. Sutton retired in 1983 from the Oak Ridge school system, where he served as principal at Woodland Elementary School. He also sold real estate for a short time and worked with ETHRA. He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Oak Ridge and had served as deacon. He enjoyed researching family history and genealogy, and he was a Bible scholar. [Read more…]

She was preceded in death by her father, William “Bill” Duncan, Lester Walker; grandparents, John and Ilena Crossno, and Rose and Herbert Cleveland; and siblings, Shannon Chaika and Jana Chaika.

She is survived by her son, Sean Richardson, Jr. (Alex Foust); grandson, Kolton Richardson; fiancé, Mark Davis; step-daughter, Madeline Davis; mother, Brenda Duncan and stepfather, Timmy Bailey; Sean’s father, Sean Richardson Sr.; Sean’s great-grandmother, Nita Sullivan; Angie’s siblings, Angie Roelle, Danny Chaika, LeeAnn Edwards, Wayne Duncan and wife Beth, Melissa Duncan, Jessica Duncan Landers and husband Brad, and Rachael Duncan; nephews, Ty Landers and Chance Leinart; and niece, Breeanna Duncan.

Treī-Roan Ryan Vann

Treī-Roan Ryan Vann, age 8, of Oak Ridge went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013.

Treī-Roan was born July 25, 2005, in Newport News, Va., the son of Crist Alvin Vann Jr. and his biological mother Angelia Myers.

He was in the third grade at Linden Elementary School, where his favorite subjects were science and social studies. More than anything, Treī-Roan loved to learn. It did not matter about what, if someone was willing to teach he wanted to learn.

He was a member of Cub Scout Pack #226 out of Linden. He enjoyed reading, collecting, and working with Legos, video games, and playing soccer, and he played football at the Boys and Girls Club of Oak Ridge, where he was on the defensive line. He was always a very thoughtful and compassionate young man who was always willing to lend a helping hand. Wilma was a member of Community Missionary Baptist Church. She loved listening to gospel music, playing games, fishing, old cars, flower gardening, and being with her family especially her grandchildren.

Cecil Louise Ivy, age 94, a resident of Oliver Springs, departed her earthly walk and entered into eternal rest on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, at her home.

Mrs. Ivy was born on April 29, 1919, in Eldorado, Kansas. She lived most of her life in Los Angeles, Calif., before moving to Oliver Springs.

She was blessed with a good education, and before her retirement she was employed for many years with both the Los Angeles County and Los Angeles City Health Departments.

Dayton C. King Sr., 89, of Oak Ridge, passed away on Dec. 2, 2013.

He was born to parents Carl Joseph and Loucreta Maples King on Jan. 31, 1924, in Maryville.

Dayton retired from Oak Ridge National Laboratory as a chemical operator. He was a member of First Baptist Church, where he enjoyed participating with the Agape Center, and he enjoyed working in his yard.

He was preceded in death by wife of 61 years, Edith Catherine King, on Aug. 21, 2006.  [Read more…]
