Clinton Library offers free programs in February

The Clinton Public Library will be offering a variety of free programs in the month of February in addition to its regular programming. These programs include classes for adults, a Valentine’s Party for teens, and an exhibit for the entire family.
On Monday, Feb. 3, the library will offer a Valentine’s-themed craft class at two times: 1 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Adults and high-schoolers are invited to join Janie Wolfenbarger in making a heart-shaped paper wreath, the perfect homemade gift for the Valentine in your life. Limited seating is available for these classes, so register today by calling the library at (865) 457-0519.
A free Computer Basics Class will be offered by the library on Friday, Feb. 28, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. This class will teach a basic understanding of computer hardware and peripherals, Microsoft Office, Adobe Reader, the Internet, and search engines. UT Arboretum Society has Feb. 15 father-daughter hike
Popular program is offered for fifth year
The University of Tennessee Arboretum Society has a father-daughter hike at the UT Arboretum in Oak Ridge on Saturday, Feb. 15.
The fun, short trail hike will last about one to 1.5 hours, a press release said.
“This is a great late-winter occasion to spend some quality time with your daughter outdoors,” the press release said. “Wear clothes appropriate to the weather and boots or good shoes for outdoor walking.” [Read more…]

A fire on Keys Drive early Friday morning destroyed a home in Blair in Roane County.
The fire was reported at 160 Keys Drive in the Blair community at about 1:15 a.m. Friday.
The two-story wooden frame house was heavily involved in fire upon the arrival of the first Blair Fire Department units. The Oliver Springs and Midtown fire departments responded on a request for mutual aid. [Read more…]
TDOT: Lewallen Bridge in Clinton slated for replacement

The Tennessee Department of Transportation will be replacing the Lewallen Bridge—known as “the green bridge” to locals—that connects Clinton and South Clinton on Highway 25W within the next couple of years.
Clinton city officials met last Friday with TDOT representatives to learn more about the project and its tentative schedule. TDOT spokesman Mark Nagi in an email said that the new bridge will be realigned to the park side of the bridge, which is upstream from the current bridge, so that the state can avoid “the costly acquisition of several homes” downstream of the bridge in the other side. Roane Alliance names new president, CEO
KINGSTON—The Roane Alliance board on Thursday unanimously agreed to hire Roane County native Wade Creswell as their next president and chief executive officer.
Creswell, 39, was recommended to the board by its officers and the selection committee after a nationwide search that began several weeks ago, shortly after current President and CEO Leslie Henderson announced she would retire on March 28.
Creswell will come to the Alliance from his position as vice president of development and public relations for health services at Michael Dunn Center, one of Roane County’s largest employers. The Michael Dunn Center is a nonprofit agency that serves children and adults with developmental disabilities. [Read more…]

Spotlight: Circuit Court Clerk appointed to state legislative committee
Anderson County Circuit Court Clerk Tyler Mayes has been selected to serve on the Tennessee Court Clerk’s Association’s legislative committee, a press release said.
Mayes will represent East Tennessee on the committee that will see many new pieces of legislation that will have a direct impact on the court system in Tennessee. The committee plays a large role in communicating with state representatives and state senators from across the state about court related legislation, the release said.
“It is an honor to represent Anderson County and court clerks from across the state on this important committee,” Mayes said. “I look forward to working with my fellow colleagues as we work on important issues affecting our court system and the citizens of Anderson County.”
Weston Wamp announces congressional campaign leadership
Weston Wamp, a Republican candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives in Tennessee’s Third District, announced the first members of his campaign staff and leadership team this week.
The group includes three notable Chattanooga entrepreneurs as well as a former staffer for the incumbent, Rep. Chuck Fleischmann, and a 25-year veteran of the Chattanooga Police Department, a press release said.
“I’m honored that people of this caliber have joined my campaign for Congress,” Wamp said. “Our campaign team spans three generations, but shares a passion for seeing Washington work to serve the people again. The Congress does not have to be an embarrassment to our country.
