The band director at Oliver Springs High School will be the featured soloist in a Sunday afternoon concert in Oak Ridge.
It’s the Oak Ridge Community Band’s “One Note Wonders” concert, and it features the music of composers who aren’t well-known, a press release said. The concert is at the Grove Theater Performing Arts Center, and it starts at 3:30 p.m.

A former Oak Ridge police officer who had alleged she was the subject of sexual rumors that had created a hostile work environment has withdrawn a $1.25 million federal lawsuit against the city.
Former Oak Ridge Police Department Officer Christina Targonski had alleged that another officer had spread sexual rumors about her—allegedly telling other officers that she had invited him to an orgy and was distributing nude photos of herself to “whoever wanted them,” federal court records said.
A school bus reported stolen in Knox County this morning was soon found in Anderson County, authorities said.
Bus 117 appears to have been stolen from its owner’s home on Prosser Road, Knoxville Police Department spokesman Darrell DeBusk said.

The Oak Ridge Neighborhood Watch Program will host a 5K race and community event on April 20 to raise funds for the program.
The race will begin and end on Badger Avenue behind the American Museum of Science and Energy. It will start at 8:30 a.m. and the fun, food, and games will begin at 10 a.m., immediately after the race awards ceremony, a city press release said.
The Oak Ridge Neighborhood Watch Program began in 2005 with Sgt. Shannah Newman partnered with a handful of citizens, the release said. The program has since grown to about 1,000 members, 180 blocks, 21 districts, and an executive board of citizen volunteers.

CLINTON—Despite some unanswered questions about design and legal liability, the Anderson County Commission voted 12-4 on Tuesday to put the national motto “In God We Trust” on the Anderson County Courthouse in Clinton.
The vote came after more than an hour of discussion during a sometimes-raucous, standing-room-only meeting that, at times, resembled a church service.
Supporters of the proposal outnumbered opponents.
“We don’t want to impose our religion on anybody,” said Kelly Bates, an Anderson County resident and mother of Commissioner Zach Bates. “However, we think it’s unfair and unjust for our children to be robbed of our Christian heritage.”
Four businesses sold beer to an underage person during a compliance check at 19 local businesses last week, Anderson County Sheriff Paul White said in a Tuesday afternoon press release.
The Anderson County Sheriff’s Department conducted the compliance checks at local businesses that sell beer on Wednesday, Feb. 13, with help from Allies for Substance Abuse Prevention of Anderson County, or ASAP, a press release said.

A child admitted playing with a lighter under a bed in a home on East Tennessee Avenue when a mattress fire was found at about 7:04 p.m. Monday, an Oak Ridge Fire Department report said.
Firefighters reported light smoke inside the house when they arrived, and they quickly found a smoldering mattress fire in a bedroom inside, the report said.
They reported the fire was under control, ventilated the home, and removed the mattress and box frame.

A member of the vocal group Sweet Honey in the Rock will lead a Friday evening session of singing songs from African and African-American traditions, a press release said.
The songs will be led by Ysaye M. Barnwell, a composer, arranger, author, and actress who has performed on more than 25 recordings with Sweet Honey in the Rock as well as with other artists.
“Everyone who attends will share the common experience of learning in the oral tradition and singing rhythms, chants, traditional songs from Africa, and a variety of songs from African-American culture,” the press release said. “All are welcome, and no experience is necessary. Come and be moved by the power of the music and community.”

A March 2 fundraiser that features music, a barbecue dinner, and auctions will support an organization that helps abused or neglected children in Anderson, Blount and Scott counties who are under court protection.
CASA of the Tennessee Heartland’s 10th Annual Barbeque and Bluegrass Bash is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. Saturday, March 2, at the Junior Achievement – Hollingsworth Center in Clinton.
The musicians scheduled to perform are hammer dulcimer player Allen McBride and bluegrass and Americana group the Ridge City Ramblers, featuring Oak Ridge Mayor Tom Beehan, a press release said.

A Clinton man was arrested Friday in Oliver Springs after he allegedly tried to sell a stolen truck and utility trailer to a scrap metal business.
Oliver Springs Police were called to Tri-County Metals on Friday on a report of a suspicious individual. Employees told police that 29-year-old Nathan Bradley Welch had tried to sell them a Ford F150, a trailer, and some diesel fuel tanks but did not have the titles for the truck or the trailer or any information about the tanks.

A free concert Saturday will feature the music of Russian composer Sergei Rachmaninoff.
Pianist Chih-Long Hu, a faculty member at East Tennessee State University, will play Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 with the Oak Ridge Community Orchestra, a press release said.
The concert starts at 2 p.m. Saturday in the sanctuary of the First Baptist Church of Oak Ridge. Although there is no admission charge, modest donations to help support the orchestra’s routine operating expenses will be appreciated, the press release said.

Rescue crews located three people reported missing after not returning from an ATV ride uninjured Saturday morning.
Crews from the Anderson and Morgan County rescue squads as well as crews from the Marlow and Briceville volunteer fire departments and others assisted in the search for a grandfather, father, and son who went riding Friday on Windrock Mountain, got lost, and had to camp out in the elements overnight. The trio was located Saturday morning and, aside from one mild case of hypothermia, was safe and sound.
