He was born August 3, 1934, in Clinton, the son of the late Dorsey and Violet (Swehla) Patterson.

Oak Ridge Community Band concert on August 5

The Oak Ridge Community Band is having a free summer concert on August 5 at 7 p.m. at A.K. Bissell Park.

Lawn chairs or blankets are recommended for this outdoor concert. Razzleberry’s Ice Cream Lab will be there for refreshments.

Irish Fry breakfast to benefit Ulster Project

A Saturday morning breakfast in Oak Ridge will raise money for the Ulster Project, a program to foster peace in Northern Ireland.

The Irish Fry Breakfast starts at 8:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Mary’s cafeteria beneath the church at 327 Vermont Ave.

Oak Ridge native and singer/songwriter Jenn Cristy will play at the next Secret City Sounds concert, this one scheduled for 7 p.m. July 27.

Food and refreshments will be available, and organizers recommend that concertgoers bring blankets or chairs for seating, said a press release from the Arts Council of Oak Ridge.

A free resource guide for pet owners in nine East Tennessee counties has been released.

“Four Paws: Handbook for a Pet-Friendly Community” is full of ideas, tips and tricks, and local initiatives to keep pets happy and healthy, a press release said.

A responsible pet-owning community can help decrease euthanasia rates by spaying and neutering pets, decreasing the number of animals surrendered to shelters, and reuniting more lost pets and their owners through the use of microchips and identification tags, the release said.

The East Tennessee Riding Club is having a horse show on Saturday in Oak Ridge.

The show consists of English, gaited, Western classes, and speed events, an ETRC press release said.

Registration will begin at 3 p.m. Saturday, and the show starts at 4 p.m. Each class entered will cost $6, but there is no charge for spectators.

Atomic Kids Triathlon in Oak Ridge on Saturday

A Saturday triathlon for children in Oak Ridge includes a 200-meter swim, a two-mile bike ride, and one-mile run.

The Oak Ridge Atomic Kids Triathlon starts at 8:30 a.m. Saturday in the parking lot of the Oak Ridge outdoor pool.

The 200-meter swim will be in the Oak Ridge Outdoor Swimming Pool. The bike ride is on Providence and Robertsville roads, and the run is on Providence Road.
