Pet of the Day: SteeleSubmitted

Oh my, we are so excited, we can hardly stand it…you are finally coming this weekend to take us home with you forever! It will be sleepless nights until Friday and Saturday get here. We wonder who you are, who will pick me, or me, or me.

They are telling us here at the shelter to just hang on a couple more days…that our mommys and daddys and brothers and sisters are coming to take us home. We have waited a long time to see you, love you, and be your playmate and cuddle bug. The staff and volunteers are really scrambling to get us ready to go, but there is such excitement in the air now. $75 to get us out the door…wow…we are worth every bit!

So tell all your friends and share, share, share far and wide. P.S. Even our foster brothers and sisters are coming to visit us on Saturday, so it will be a big party here. [Read more…]

Letter: Biloski committed to community, can make constructive changes

To the Editor:

In the upcoming May election, I will be voting for Lauren Biloski, Republican candidate for juvenile judge.

This seat, which is being vacated by our present juvenile judge, is vitally important to several quality-of-life issues for so many families in Anderson County. We need to make sure we elect the best person to fill this position. I have known Lauren and her family for many years in Oak Ridge. Lauren graduated from Oak Ridge Schools, came back to our community to practice family law, and has extensive experience in assisting families with a variety of difficult issues. [Read more…]

I am just one cutsie girlfriend waiting on my limo to take me out of here. I frankly am looking for my best friend, and I am rather selective. All applications will be considered, but only if you are into fun times, cuddling, and furballs. Are you feeling the love?

Pepper was the featured pet of the day on Monday. He actually has a lot of say about his situation:

“So here’s how it is. I sat and watched my sweet sister Shakira in the loving arms of her forever family. I miss her already. I couldn’t even be in the same cage with her because we were boy and girl and that would be trouble.

“I was blowing her brotherly kisses, but I was trying to hid my tears because I want to go so badly too. I love being out of my cage. Miss Sandi lets me run around so I can stretch my legs, but I am getting real antsy and just cry to let me out. I know my time is short and I just want to go home! Would you come for me please?”

The Oak Ridge Library is preparing to celebrate National Library Week from April 13 to April 19.

The festivities begin early with the Design a Bookmark contest for the Summer Reading Program. This contest began on March 17 and runs through April 17. This contest is open to children in grades K-5, and one winner will be chosen from each grade. Winning bookmarks will be selected in May and will be printed and distributed during the 2014 Summer Reading Program.

During National Library Week, the Biscuit Guessing Contest will be held. A jar of dog biscuits will be at the main desk of the Library, and the three participants who guess closest to the number of biscuits in the jar will receive free DVD rentals.

Join with the Oak Ridge Library to help the community by donating supplies to Oak Ridge Animal Shelter and to Aid to Distressed Families of Appalachian Counties (ADFAC). [Read more…]
