Tennessee officials have approved new renovation plans valued at $1.4 million at Norris Dam State Park in Anderson County, two state legislators said Friday.

The State Building Commission has approved the restoration of the Tea Room, the Linen House, and 19 cabins built in the 1930s, said representatives John Ragan, an Oak Ridge Republican, and Dennis Powers, a Jacksboro Republican.

“These improvements at Norris Dam will provide both residents and visitors with an even better experience at one of our state’s most premier parks,” Ragan said.

“I know that with these upgrades, the people of Anderson County will be enjoying Norris Dam for years to come,” Powers said.

A press release said the State Building Commission was created by the state legislature in 1955 to oversee construction of all public state buildings. In recent years, the commission’s responsibility has been expanded to include authority over most improvement and demolition projects of property owned by the state.

Ragan is chairman of the House Energy Task Force and vice-chairman of the House Government Operations Committee. Powers serves as vice-chairman of the House Republican Caucus. Both represent parts of Anderson County in the Tennessee General Assembly.
