Oak Ridge will play at Powell in a quarterfinal game of the Class 5A football playoffs.

The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. Friday, November 18. Tickets are $10.

Oak Ridge (7-5) lost to Powell 30-14 during the regular season on September 30. It was the only loss for the Wildcats in Region 3 this year, and they finished 4-1 in the region.

The Panthers (10-2), undefeated in Region 3 during the regular season this year (5-0), were state Class 5A champions last season.

The Wildcats advanced to the quarterfinal game with a 13-12 win in a second-round game at McMinn County (9-3) last week. Oak Ridge was eliminated by McMinn County 24-17 in the first round of last season’s playoffs.

This year, Oak Ridge’s Brandon Heyward blocked a game-winning field goal attempt by McMinn County to eliminate the Cherokees.

Oak Ridge opened the playoffs this year with a 36-17 defeat of Rhea County at home on November 4.

Three of Oak Ridge’s losses this season were to teams from larger Class 6A schools: Bearden, Farragut, and Dobyns-Bennett. One was to Powell, and the other was to Greeneville, a standout Class 4A team that won a state championship in 2018 and has been to a Class 4A quarterfinal every year since.

More information will be added as it becomes available.
