Authorities reported no major problems when snow fell in Oak Ridge and Anderson County on Friday morning, although some area school districts closed.

Key Springs Road in north Oak Ridge was temporarily closed at the request of the Oak Ridge Police Department after a tractor-trailer got stuck coming up the steep, curvy road.

It wasn’t necessarily weather-related, and it wasn’t clear how long the road would be closed, said Pat Fallon, Oak Ridge Public Works division manager.

Four trucks with snow plows were out clearing roads and spreading salt. No problems had been reported for at least an hour, Fallon said at about noon Friday.

The main roads were hit with snow at morning rush hour, but most roads appeared to be fine at about 10 a.m., with only a few slushy spots remaining in places.

At noon, Fallon said city workers were just cleaning up what was left.

There had been a few accidents Friday morning, but no major problems, Fallon said.

In Anderson County, Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Mark Lucas said the snow arrived as many people were traveling to work.

“However, we didn’t have many issues,” Lucas said. “There were two weather-related minor traffic crashes along with a few reports of cars that slid off the road. It was rather slick for a while with cars unable to make it up hills.”

Lucas said the southern part of the county, including Claxton, seems to have received the most snow, and Clinton Highway was slow-going for some time this morning.

“Most roads and highways are clear,” Lucas said early Friday afternoon. “There are still some rural roads that have spots of snow so we are advising motorists to use caution.”

More information will be added as it becomes available.
