United Way of Anderson County Meeting Invite

Reservations due Monday

The United Way of Anderson County will have its annual meeting on Thursday morning at the Children’s Museum of Oak Ridge.

Reservations are due Monday, April 14.

A light breakfast will be available at the annual meeting, which is scheduled from 7:30-8:30 a.m. Thursday.

“The community is invited to attend the annual meeting and campaign announcement,” a press release said. “It is a time for UWAC to share with donors the lasting change their contributions make in Anderson County and an opportunity to thank and recognize the volunteers that lead the effort. A volunteer board of 30-plus community business leaders steer the organization’s decisions; loaned executives help run company campaigns by supplying materials and support across the county; and event committees help plan and raise money through special events and fund distribution committees of more than 40 volunteers that vet programs and make decisions about how the dollars are allocated among agency partners and programs.”

“In addition to the difficult economic conditions affecting our area, our United Way’s fund raising effort was significantly impacted by the partial government shutdown of October 2013,” said Rick Morrow, UWAC executive director. “However, we were successful in raising sufficient funds to provide a stable funding pool for our 35 community partners. We hope to begin a growth phase in the near future.”

The 2012 campaign raised $1,227,771, which supplied support to 34 agencies and touched more than 44,868 lives, the press release said.

“UWAC encourages our community to rally around these agencies and their programs,” UWAC Board President Greta Ownby said. “We are committed to promoting program information and successes and bringing deeper awareness to the public when it comes to the challenges and solutions in this community. We are confident that when companies, employees, retirees and individuals in our community know more, they will give more.”

The 2013 campaign results will be announced at the annual meeting on Thursday.

For more information or to RSVP, send an e-mail to Resource Development Director Jennifer Pettyjohn at Jennifer@UWAYAC.org or call (865) 483-8431.
