The Oak Ridge Public Library is joining libraries across the country as the starting point for people who will be participating in the Affordable Care Act.
The Marketplace opens Oct. 1, and it can be accessed through the website www.healthcare.gov. President Obama has called upon libraries with public Internet access to help fill the need of the estimated one in five Americans who do not have Internet access.
At the Oak Ridge library, reference staff will be on hand to help the public get to the Marketplace using the library’s public computers. Wireless access is also available for those who have laptops but do not have Internet access at home. Even though staff will not be able to help with specifics, they will be able to refer you to people and resources that can. Everyone is encouraged to enroll online, but signing up by telephone or by using an application form is available as well.
The Library will also be offering two programs on the Affordable Care Act. Insurance agent David Vudragovich will give a brief overview of health insurance and the ACA on Tuesday, Sept. 24, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and will present a more detailed look on Saturday, Sept. 28, from 2 to 4 p.m. Both programs are in the Library auditorium and are free to the public. To register for one or both programs, call the Library at (865) 425-3455.
