Temporary road closure planned for Parade on Saturday

A temporary road closure is planned for Lafayette Drive on Saturday, December 12, to allow for the “reverse” parade to take place.

The northbound lanes of Lafayette Drive will be closed to traffic beginning around 3 p.m., a press release said. The southbound lanes and access roads will be closed to traffic beginning around 5 p.m. Both will remain closed to traffic until the parade ends at 8. [Read more…]

Temporary road closure on Saturday for Halloween House

A temporary road closure is planned along part of Nebraska Avenue for Saturday, October 31, for the annual residential “Halloween House,” a press release said.

The temporary, partial road closure is scheduled for about seven hours, between 5 p.m. Saturday and 12 a.m. Sunday. It is necessary to create a safer environment for drivers and pedestrians expected to visit the “Halloween House,” which is on Nebraska Avenue between Newridge Road and Newhaven Road, the press release said.

“The small stretch of road will be blocked to through traffic,” the press release said. “However, residents will still be able to get to and from their homes during this time.”

Part of Nebraska Ave. closes for Halloween House on Thursday

A temporary road closure is planned along part of Nebraska Avenue on Halloween, Thursday, October 31, between 5 and 11 p.m.

A small portion of the 100 block of Nebraska Avenue between Newridge Road and Newhaven Road will be blocked to through traffic, a press release said. Residents will still be able to get to and from their homes during this time, the press release said.

The closure is necessary to create a safer environment for drivers and pedestrians expected to visit the annual “Halloween House” residential attraction, the press release said.

Reminder: Roads closed for national championship cycling event

A reminder: The City of Oak Ridge and the Oak Ridge Police Department have issued a notice for drivers regarding the planned closure of a large portion of Melton Lake Drive on Thursday, June 27. The road closure is necessary to provide a safe, closed-loop course for athletes, volunteers, and spectators at the USA Cycling Para-cycling and Professional Road National Championship Time Trials being held in Oak Ridge, a press release said.

Beginning at 6 a.m. Thursday, Emory Valley Road was closed from the Artesia Drive intersection to Melton Lake Drive. There will be no access onto Melton Lake Drive from Emory Valley Road. Residents who live off of Amanda Drive or Emory Valley Road will need to take Antioch Drive, Baylor Drive, or Baltimore Drive to exit the neighborhood, the press release said.

Melton Lake Drive will also be closed from Palisades Parkway to Edgemoor Road for course set-up. At this time, drivers will be able to turn left from Palisades Pkwy onto Melton Lake Drive. The Rivers Run Boulevard entrance to Melton Lake Drive will be closed, the press release said. Residents entering and exiting the Rivers Run, Royal Troon, or Rockbridge neighborhoods were allowed to use the Rolling Links Boulevard entrance to turn right onto Melton Lake Drive until 10 a.m. Thursday.

A large part of Melton Lake Drive will be closed Thursday for the USA Cycling Individual Time Trial National Championship, which is being held in Oak Ridge.

The planned road closure was announced by the City of Oak Ridge and Oak Ridge Police Department.

Road closure on Lafayette on Saturday for traffic signal repairs

The City of Oak Ridge will temporarily close Lafayette Drive to northbound traffic at Emory Valley Road from approximately 8 a.m. until 12 p.m. on Saturday, April 1. Traffic will be detoured onto Emory Valley Road.

The closure is necessary to begin repairs on the traffic signal at that intersection, a press release said. The metal upright and mast arm that supports signal heads for northbound Lafayette Drive traffic was damaged during a car crash on January 13.

The repair will require the removal, inspection, and replacement of the metal upright and mast arm, the press release said. The complete repair will take between six and 18 weeks, depending on the degree of damage to the structural foundation of the pole. [Read more…]

Updated notice of road closure for Pennsylvania Avenue

The Oak Ridge Public Works Department has rescheduled a planned road closure from Monday, August 1, to Tuesday, August 2.

Crews will now close both lanes of Pennsylvania Avenue from East Pasadena Road to North Tulane Avenue and a small section of East Pasadena at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday. At least one lane will reopen by 2 p.m. so school bus routes can run as scheduled. This will also lessen the impact on student pick-up and drop-off traffic.

The closure is necessary for the Oak Ridge Electric Department to replace a utility pole on the island at the junction of North Tulane, Pennsylvania, and Providence Road. [Read more…]

Revised: Road closure in Oak Ridge on Tuesday

The Oak Ridge Public Works Department will close the east bound lane (one lane only) on Pennsylvania Avenue from Hillside Road to West Passmore Road on Tuesday, July 26. The Electric Department work in this area has been delayed. The single lane road closure is necessary for crews to patch a strip of the road on Pennsylvania Avenue.

“Residents are urged to use extreme care and caution while driving in the area, and we ask that you consider using alternate routes,” a press release said. “We apologize for any inconvenience this closure may cause and appreciate your patience.” [Read more…]

Sewer line construction starts Monday on Warehouse Road

A city contractor will start work on Monday to relocate and install a larger sanitary sewer line that runs underneath Warehouse Road in east Oak Ridge, a press release said.

The road will be closed just east of Science.gov Way while the excavation work is being done. The work could take three days, although the scheduled could be affected by weather, the release said.

City cancels closure of New York Avenue on Thursday

The expected closure of New York Avenue between Vermont Avenue and Vance Road on Thursday has been canceled, the city announced Tuesday.

An earlier release had said a short section of New York Avenue near Oak Ridge Turnpike could be closed Thursday while a contractor repairs a sewer line.
