Man, dog injured after shots fired at home

A man and dog were injured after shots were fired at a home on Wednesday night, authorities said.

The shooting was reported at 325 Louisiana Avenue at about 11:45 p.m. Wednesday.

The resident, 27-year-old Dylan Squires, told officers that he heard a knock on his front door. When he opened the door, Squires said, he observed a man, dressed in all black clothing and a ski mask, approaching his porch. [Read more…]

Crews working to restore power on west end

Crews were working to restore power on the west end of Oak Ridge on Tuesday night, including in the area around Louisiana Avenue and Robertsville Road.

One person dies in three-vehicle crash on Turnpike on Friday

One person died in a three-vehicle crash on Oak Ridge Turnpike on Friday night, authorities said.

The roadway was closed between Illinois and Louisiana avenues from just after 10 p.m. Friday until almost 2:30 a.m. Saturday, according to text alerts sent out by the Oak Ridge Police Department.

Additional information about the crash isn’t available yet, but the ORPD could have more information available later this evening.

More information will be added as it becomes available.

A stretch of Oak Ridge Turnpike was closed west of Louisiana Avenue late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning as police and fire units investigated a shooting incident.

A medical helicopter landed at Big Turtle Park in west Oak Ridge and could be seen taking off at about 11:40 p.m. Emergency workers reported a man with a gunshot wound to the face, although authorities hadn’t released details about the shooting as of early Wednesday morning. Update (9:13 a.m.): Police have since said the gunshot wound was self-inflicted.

All four lanes of the divided highway remained closed until past 2 a.m. Wednesday, and the Oak Ridge Police Department and Oak Ridge Fire Department were both on the scene early Wednesday. The Anderson County Sheriff’s Department helped provide traffic control east of the incident near United Grocery Outlet at Louisiana Avenue on Tuesday evening and into Wednesday morning. Most traffic was taking a side street route down West Lincoln Road. [Read more…]

There was no damage to a Louisiana Avenue home during a chimney fire on Monday afternoon, authorities said.

The chimney fire occurred at about 4:55 p.m. Monday at 330 Louisiana Ave., Oak Ridge Fire Department Chief Darryl Kerley said. The fire was contained in the chimney with no damage to the house, Kerley said.
