Four Oak Ridgers to play in Region 2 golf tournament next week

Four Oak Ridgers are scheduled to play in the Region 2-AAA golf tournament next week.

There are two Oak Ridgers in the boys’ high school golf tournament and two in the girls’ tournament. The boys are John Estep and Jacob Parton, and the girls are Susan Henderson and Keyanna Thompson, according to schedules posted online by Bearden High School Golf.

The boys’ tournament starts at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 26, on the number one tee at Green Meadow Country Club in Alcoa, and the girls’ tournament begins at the same time, 8:30 a.m., at the number 10 tee. [Read more…]

The Robertsville and Jefferson Middle School girls basketball teams just completed their seasons.

Robertsville won both the regular season and district tournament championship, with Jefferson placing second in the regular season and third in the district tournament. The teams split the regular season City Championship.

Keyanna Thompson and Khamari Mitchell-Stein were named to the All-District Tournament team for Jefferson, and Brianna Dunbar, Selena Pettus, Raja Eckeles, and Cre Thompson for Roberstville. Brianna Dunbar was named District Tournament Most Valuable Player.

Jordan Van Druff of Jefferson Middle School, the boys city champion. Van Druff was undefeated in all of Jefferson’s regular season races during his three-year career.

Both Oak Ridge middle school cross country teams wrapped up their seasons at the City Championship meet held Tuesday, September 29, on the Jefferson Middle School campus.

Battling hard against determined Ram and Lady Ram teams, the JMS Eagle and Lady Eagle cross country teams emerged as City Champions in the meet.

Led by standout runner Jordan Van Druff, the Eagles captured 18 of the first 20 places in the boys race, including the top five positions, to finish the race with a perfect score of 15 points.

Robertsville Middle School’s top runner, seventh-grader Christopher Van Hook, placed sixth overall. [Read more…]
