Man arrested for alleged robbery in hotel parking lot

An Oak Ridge man allegedly robbed three people in a hotel parking lot on Monday and was arrested a short time later, authorities said.

The alleged robbery occurred at the Holiday Inn Express at about 11:49 p.m. Monday, according to the Oak Ridge Police Department.

The three victims told officers that a male had robbed them at gunpoint and fled on foot, a City of Oak Ridge press release said. More officers responded, inspected the area, and conducted interviews.

The press release said Jhavon T. Parker, 19, of Oak Ridge, was arrested a short time later and taken to the Anderson County Detention Facility in Clinton, where he was charged with three counts of aggravated robbery. [Read more…]

Relay for Life kickoff scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 29

American Cancer Society Relay for Life

The kickoff for this year’s Relay for Life of Oak Ridge is scheduled for Thursday evening, January 29.

During the kickoff, volunteers and participants will launch fundraising efforts for 2015. The kickoff will be at the Holiday Inn Express at 114 Tulsa Road from 5:30-7 p.m. January 29.

Anderson County Sheriff Paul White has a meet-the-candidate fundraiser on Tuesday.

The fundraiser is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Holiday Inn Express on Hillvale Road near the Clinton/Norris exit off Highway 61.

Construction work could be complete by the end of June on a five-story Holiday Inn Express on Tulsa Road.

Construction work at a five-story Holiday Inn Express on Tulsa Road could be complete by the end of June.

About 18 to 20 workers are building the hotel’s parking lot, finishing the interior, painting, and installing an elevator and furniture, among other tasks, said Russell Olmstead of building contractor DNS Builders of Sevierville.
