Party In The Park on Saturday will feature free family fun

Party in the Park on Saturday will feature family-friendly activities for children and adults, crime prevention presentations and information, free food, and more.

It’s free and presented by the Oak Ridge Police Department and Oak Ridge Neighborhood Watch Program.

Party in the Park is scheduled from 12 to 5 p.m. Saturday, October 29, from 12 to 5 p.m. at Alvin K. Bissell Park near the Oak Ridge Civic Center.

Party in the Park is designed to heighten awareness of crime and drug prevention, to generate support for local anti-crime programs, and to strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships, a press release said. [Read more…]

Red Ribbon Rivalry this month, buy ribbon for substance abuse prevention

The 2016 Red Ribbon Rivalry is this month. It’s sponsored by Allies for Substance Abuse Prevention of Anderson County, or ASAP.

This year, in Anderson County, ASAP is holding the Red Ribbon Rivalry during the month of January, culminating on Sunday, January 31. The main goal is to raise funds to prevent and reduce substance abuse here in Anderson County.

Local businesses are competing against each other by selling red ribbons for a $1 donation and displaying them in their businesses to show support for substance abuse prevention. The winning businesses and employees will receive recognition for their efforts as well as individual prizes for the top sales associates. Anderson County High School, Clinton High School, and Oak Ridge High School are also competing this year to see who will be the recipient of the Red Ribbon Rivalry trophy to be displayed at their school for the year. A National Night Out celebration at A.K. Bissell Park this month will feature free food, family-friendly activities for children and adults, and crime prevention presentations and information.

The National Night Out is from 3-7 p.m. Saturday, October 11, at A.K. Bissell Park near the Oak Ridge Civic Center. The community is invited.

The Oak Ridge Police Community Resource Office and the Oak Ridge Neighborhood Watch Program will host the 2014 National Night Out celebration, a crime prevention program promoted by National Association of Town Watch. This year marks the 31st anniversary of this community-police partnership, a press release said.

Magician Danny Whitson will perform feats of magic during the celebration. Festivities will also include Oak Ridge Police K-9 demonstrations, the Mobile Meth Lab exhibit, safety and health exhibits, Oak Ridge Electric Department bucket rides, drug abuse prevention information, Doug LaVerne on steel drums, music, and games.
