Clinton Public Library seeking teen volunteers for summer

The Clinton Public Library is seeking teen volunteers to assist with its Summer Reading Club.

Volunteers are needed to register children for the Reading Club, assist at programs, help prepare for story times, and more!  All teens interested in volunteering at the Library this summer must attend an informational session on Monday, May 19, at either 3 p.m. or 6 p.m. Please bring your calendar with you!

Watch hockey, support library

East Tennessee libraries are calling attention to local libraries and funding support with a unique multi-library event.

As libraries across the state spotlight the value of libraries with local Geek the Library campaigns, East Tennessee libraries are joining together for an exciting group event at the March 1 home game of the Knoxville Ice Bears professional hockey team. The game will be held at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum, where the Knoxville Ice Bears will take on the Bloomington Thunder. The game starts at 7:30 pm. March 1.

Library supporters are invited to join in and “get their geek on” in support of public libraries in Tennessee. Local libraries participating in this event include the Clinton Public Library, Meigs County Public Library, and the Englewood Public Library, among others. Clinton Library offers free programs in February

The Clinton Public Library will be offering a variety of free programs in the month of February in addition to its regular programming. These programs include classes for adults, a Valentine’s Party for teens, and an exhibit for the entire family.

On Monday, Feb. 3, the library will offer a Valentine’s-themed craft class at two times: 1 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Adults and high-schoolers are invited to join Janie Wolfenbarger in making a heart-shaped paper wreath, the perfect homemade gift for the Valentine in your life. Limited seating is available for these classes, so register today by calling the library at (865) 457-0519.

A free Computer Basics Class will be offered by the library on Friday, Feb. 28, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. This class will teach a basic understanding of computer hardware and peripherals, Microsoft Office, Adobe Reader, the Internet, and search engines. Clinton Public Library has monthly computer lab for job seekers

On the first Thursday of every month, the Clinton Public Library will have an open computer lab just for job seekers.

The first Job Seekers’ Lab will be held on Thursday, Jan. 2, from 2-3:30 p.m., a press release said. During that time, an instructor will be available to assist patrons with job searches, job applications, resumes, and cover letters.

The Clinton Public Library will also be hosting a free Computer Basics Class on Friday, Jan. 24, from 2-3:30 p.m. This class will teach a basic understanding of computer hardware and peripherals, Microsoft Office, Adobe Reader, the Internet, and search engines. B&W Y-12 helps libraries, Smokies, Leukemia Society

B&W Y-12 at Light the Night

B&W Y-12 recently announced it has donated $1,250 to local libraries, raised more than $20,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and volunteered more than 10,000 hours of service at the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Clinton Library has classical guitar concert Monday

Join the Friends of the Clinton Public Library as they host Jeff Bianchi to perform an hour-long classical guitar concert at 6 p.m. Monday.

The date is part of Bianchi’s fall performance schedule, which includes concerts in Tennessee, Kentucky, and Ohio.

Bianchi’s skill has earned him performances at the Rantucci International Guitar Festival, the Ithaca Guitar Festival, and a special concert in conjunction with the National Old Time Fiddlers’ Competition, a press release said. [Read more…]

Clinton Library starts autumn with children’s programs

Clinton Public Library is getting into the autumn season with a series of children’s programs.

“Join us for stories about friendly monsters on Oct. 21 and Oct. 23, and Halloween fun on Oct. 28 and Oct. 30,” a press release said. All story time programs begin at 10:30 a.m.

On Oct. 26 at 10:30 a.m., the library is celebrating the fall harvest with a “Down on the Farm”-themed Super Story Saturday. [Read more…]

Free genealogy workshop to be offered at Clinton Library

Clinton Public Library has partnered with two members of the Pellissippi Genealogical and Historical Society to offer a four-part genealogy workshop entitled “Genealogy 101: The Basics.”

Conducted by society members Stephanie Hill and Emily Haverkamp, sessions are scheduled for four Tuesdays: Jan. 29, Feb. 5, Feb. 12, and Feb. 19, from 6-8 p.m. There is no charge for the workshop.

A winter reading club for adults starts at the Clinton Public Library in January.

The first program features a discussion of the John Grisham book “Skipping Christmas.” The library has copies of the book available for readers to borrow.

The first program starts at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 14.

Literacy Fair for young children at Clinton Library on Saturday

The Clinton Public Library will have its first Early Literacy Fair for children on Saturday.

The fair is for children from infants to age 5 and their caregivers, a press release said.

“Don’t miss this chance to explore your role as your child’s first teacher and to find out about many valuable resources for your child’s future,” the release said.

It said literacy begins at birth, and studies show that a child who enters kindergarten with certain pre-reading skills has a better chance for success throughout the rest of his school years.

Saturday’s Early Literacy Fair starts at 11 a.m. and ends at 2 p.m.

  • Explore and develop the skills your children need for kindergarten and before they read their first words. Use our interactive activity stations to talk, sing, read, write, and play with your children; and enjoy early literacy activities that involve letters, art, music, and books.
  • Meet professionals from the community who can talk to you about early literacy and other topics.
  • Find out how to know if your children are ready for kindergarten and how to better prepare them.

The Early Literacy Fair is a free, drop-in event. No registration is required, and visitors can stop by any time between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
