Teen struck by vehicle, treated for minor head injuries

A 14-year-old was hit by a vehicle at the intersection of Lafayette Drive and Laboratory Road on Tuesday morning, authorities said.

The crash occurred at about 7:47 a.m. Tuesday, the Oak Ridge Police Department said.

The boy was crossing Lafayette Drive on foot when he was struck by a northbound vehicle, the ORPD said in a statement. The teen was transported to Methodist Medical Center for treatment of minor head injuries.

The driver of the vehicle was cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

Report: Child hit by car escapes with scrapes, bruises

A child who was hit by a car on Johnson Road on Wednesday appeared to escape serious injury, according to a police report.

The accident happened at about 4 p.m. Wednesday at Jay Lane, an Oak Ridge Police Department crash report said.

The report said the 10-year-old darted out from behind a parked car and was hit by an eastbound Chevrolet Impala driven by a 63-year-old Oak Ridge woman, who was not injured.

The child was knocked to the ground and had scrapes and bruises, but the parents declined transport or treatment, according to the report by ORPD Officer Benjamin Haines. The report said the injuries were “non-incapacitating,” or non-disabling.

East Tennessee Avenue Mattress Fire

A child admitted playing with a lighter under a bed when a mattress fire was found in an East Tennessee Avenue home Monday night, authorities said. (Photos by Tom Scott)

A child admitted playing with a lighter under a bed in a home on East Tennessee Avenue when a mattress fire was found at about 7:04 p.m. Monday, an Oak Ridge Fire Department report said.

Firefighters reported light smoke inside the house when they arrived, and they quickly found a smoldering mattress fire in a bedroom inside, the report said.

They reported the fire was under control, ventilated the home, and removed the mattress and box frame.

Oliver Springs man accused of ramming car with wife, child

An Oliver Springs man has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault after he allegedly used his truck to ram a car containing his wife and her four-year-old daughter, authorities said.

Goman Harness, 47, and his wife had reportedly been arguing in Oliver Springs on Saturday before the wife drove away with her young daughter. While on her way home, the wife said, Harness allegedly rammed her car with his truck, causing her car to spin, according to arrest warrants filed in Anderson County General Sessions Court.
