Patrick says ‘no’ to other elected offices, Iwanski to chairmanship

After losing by a wide margin in the Aug. 2 election, Anderson County Commissioner Buzz Patrick on Monday said he has no plans to run for any other elected office.

And the man who beat him, Anderson County Interim Mayor Myron Iwanski, said he is not interested in becoming Anderson County Commission chairman, a position he has held before.

Republican early voting turnout twice as high as Democratic

More than twice as many Republicans as Democrats cast ballots during early voting in Anderson County this year, election officials said Monday.

Early voting ended Saturday, and as of Monday afternoon, the Anderson County Election Commission had counted a total of 6,599 votes.

Republicans cast 4,371 of those votes and Democrats 1,904, said Stephanie Gamble, Anderson County Election Commission deputy administrator.

Channel 95 will feature live election results

Channel 95, Anderson County’s public television station, will have a live broadcast during the Aug. 2 election, providing updates on voting results and interviews with candidates and community leaders.

The station is working with the Anderson County Election Commission to produce the broadcast, which starts at 8 p.m. and ends at 10 p.m. Aug. 2.

Early voting begins today

Early voting began this morning for the Aug. 2 county general election and state and federal primary elections.

There are three early voting locations in Anderson County, one in Oak Ridge, a second in Clinton, and a third in Andersonville.

Hackworth seeks former Tennessee House seat

Former Tennessee Rep. Jim Hackworth has officially announced he wants to take back his old seat in the Tennessee House of Representatives.

Hackworth, a Clinton Democrat, is running against Rep. John Ragan, an Oak Ridge Republican, in Tennessee’s 33rd District, which includes most of Anderson County.

Running for his first political office, Ragan beat Hackworth, a four-term legislator, two years ago in the November 2010 election, when Republicans gained power across the country.
