DOE public bus tours in Oak Ridge end Aug. 31

Public bus tours of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge facilities end for the year on Friday, Aug. 31.

The tour includes stops at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Y-12 National Security Complex, and East Tennessee Technology Park. The tour includes historical commentary on the transformation of the Oak Ridge Reservation during the past 65 years, a press release said.

So far this season, 1,099 visitors from 36 states have participated in the three-hour summer tour.

Free AMSE admisssion for library card holders

AMSE Library PassThe American Museum of Science and Energy and Oak Ridge Public Library have partnered to offer free admission to library card holders.

The partnership is designed to make AMSE accessible to all Oak Ridge residents and to encourage them to have a library card, a press release said.

AMSE receives TripAdvisor excellence award

The American Museum of Science and Energy in Oak Ridge has received an award that recognizes top traveler ratings.

The consistently high ratings from TripAdvisor travelers during the past year earned AMSE a certificate of excellence, a museum press release said.

Small World exhibit opens at AMSE

An exhibit that opened Friday at the American Museum of Science and Energy features artistic pictures of hard-to-see objects such as green lacewing larva and a blade of grass.

The 20 award winning photomicrographs are part of the 2011 Nikon Small World exhibition.

“Celebrating its 37th year, Nikon Small World has become the top forum for showing the beauty and complexity of life as seen through the light microscope, and it celebrates the world’s best photomicrographers who create beautiful imagery while demonstrating a variety of scientific principles,” an AMSE press release said.

The DOE Oak Ridge facilities public bus tour kicks off on June 4 and continues through Aug 31. (Photo submitted by DOE)

The U.S. Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge facilities public bus tour begins June 4 and continues through August 31.

The three-hour tour starts at the American Museum of Science and Energy and travels to landmarks at the three DOE sites: East Tennessee Technology Park (the former K-25 site), Oak Ridge National Laboratory and Y-12 National Security Complex.

The tour provides visitors with historical facts and updates on the world-class missions under way in Oak Ridge.
