Free CPR class offered by Anderson County EMS, Marlow Fire Department

Anderson County EMS and the Marlow Volunteer Fire Department are offering a free CPR class on Saturday.

The class is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Grand Oaks Elementary School at 1033 Oliver Springs Highway in Marlow.

“This class will teach you how to perform CPR, use an AED, and also how to recognize heart attacks and strokes,” a press release said. [Read more…]

Anderson County school board honors high school staffers who saved girl

During Tuesday’s Anderson County Board of Education meeting, a group of teachers, principals, and other staff members were honored for saving a student’s life.

Last month, Brittany Overton went into cardiac arrest in the school courtyard before classes began. On Tuesday, leaders honored the crew of teachers, principals, and staff members that helped bring her back to health. Overton attended the School Board meeting. [Read more…]

Firehouse Subs Foundation donates equipment to ORFD, Roane County

Firehouse Subs and Oak Ridge Fire Department Thermal Imaging Camera

Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation recently donated a thermal imaging camera worth more than $10,000 to Oak Ridge Fire Department.

The foundation also donated first-aid kits and six automated external defibrillators, worth a total of more than $10,200, to Roane County Sheriff’s Office.

The equipment was presented in ceremonies at Firehouse Subs in Oak Ridge and Lenoir City.

The thermal imaging camera donated to ORFD will detect body heat and hot spots in burning buildings, allowing firefighters to reach victims quickly and put out deadly fires. [Read more…]

Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation is donating  $20,000 worth of much-needed equipment to the Oak Ridge Fire Department and Roane County Sheriff’s Office, a press release said.

Events are planned in Oak Ridge on Wednesday and Lenoir City on Thursday to celebrate the donations of the life-saving tools, the release said.

The ORFD is receiving a thermal imaging camera, worth more than $10,000.

“The donated camera will detect body heat and hot spots in burning buildings, allowing firefighters to reach victims quickly and put out deadly fires,” the release said. [Read more…]

Anderson County EMS offers free CPR course

Anderson County EMS will host a free community CPR class on Saturday, Feb. 15, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the headquarters of the Anderson County Rescue Squad at 145 JD Yarnell Industrial Parkway in Clinton.

This class will teach attendees how to perform CPR and use an automated external defibrillator—or AED—as well as how to recognize the signs of a heart attack and/or stroke. This is a Heart Saver class for the general public and is not intended for first responders.

Class size is limited to the first 30 people. For information or to sign up, call (865) 457-8609.
