Nancy Jarvis Hudson

Nancy Jarvis Hudson, “Nan” to those who knew and loved her, entered eternal life on Dec. 1, following a courageous 14-month journey with pancreatic cancer.

Nan was born Feb. 26, 1955, in Oak Ridge, where she lived most of her life. She was the daughter of Evelyn Fitzwater Jarvis and Gerald Melvin Jarvis, who pre-deceased her.

As a child, Nan lived in the Woodland community, where she had many fond memories of adventures with her childhood friend, Karen Pruett. Nan was a 1973 graduate of Oak Ridge High School.

Nan was a paralegal in the real property department at the law firm of Joyce, Meredith, Flitcroft, and Normand, where she had worked for almost 15 years. In July 2012, she was specially honored by the law firm for her years of great service.

Pamela Sue Turner

Pamela Sue Turner, age 44, a resident of Oliver Springs, passed away Thursday, Dec. 6, at Park West Medical Center in Knoxville.

Pamela was born Aug. 31, 1968, in Chapel Hill, N.C. She moved to Oliver Springs in 1971 and later graduated from the Oliver Springs High School in 1987. Following her high school graduation, she became a chef and worked at the Bel-Air Grill.

Ms. Turner was preceded in death by her parents, Kirby Turner and Julia Taylor Turner, and by a special friend, Jordy Phillips.

Lora Lavonne Phipps

Lora Lavonne Phipps, age 80, of Oak Ridge, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 4, at Methodist Medical Center.

She was born April 30, 1932, in Newton, Miss., the daughter of Jasie and Glover Hill.

She was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, where she was active in the Guiding Light Circle and the Senior Choir. She was also active in the NADA (Nine Adults Dedicating Assistance) Club, where she served as treasurer and volunteered as a poll worker at the City Hall District.

Mrs. Phipps enjoyed reading, fishing, sewing, and water aerobics. She was well-known in the Scarboro Community for her pound cakes. She retired as a lab technician from Martin Marietta Energy Systems, X-10.

J.W. Gibson

J.W. Gibson, age 79, of Kingston, died Wednesday, Dec. 05, at his home.

He was born July 29, 1933, in Knoxville, the son of Stuart and Lucy Wright Gibson.

Mr. Gibson was a member of the Church of God of the Union Assembly in Knoxville. He was a well-known builder in the area and built much of Oak Ridge, including various sub-divisions, commercial shopping centers, the Country Club Estates and Jackson Plaza, of which he was most proud.

She was born May 8, 1954, in Oak Ridge, the daughter of James and Wanda Willey Summers.

Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and had worked for 20 years as a teacher’s assistant at Woodland Elementary School.

Lucille Candace Bond York, 83, of Oak Ridge, passed away on Dec. 5.

She was born in Wiggins, Miss. on Jan. 4, 1929, to parents Winfield Scott and Carrie McDonald Bond.

For many years, she worked at Methodist Medical Center as a registered nurse, being a very important role in life. She was a member of First Baptist Church, was interested in nature photography, and enjoyed gardening and wildflowers.

Doyle Cook, age 54, of Clinton, passed away Sunday, Dec. 2, at his residence.

He loved his wife, children, and grandchildren. Doyle also loved fishing and playing guitar. He was a member of Jarnigan Chapel Baptist Church in Clinton.

Doyle was preceded in death by his father, Boyd Cook; brother, Brownlow Cook; sister, Magaline Cook; and granddaughter, Layla Fayth Dotson.

Paul Edmond Duncan, age 73, a resident of the Marlow community of Anderson County, passed away Sunday, Dec. 2, at Methodist Medical Center.

Mr. Duncan was born April 16, 1939, in Campbell County. The Duncan family moved to the Marlow community of Anderson County following the second World War in the mid 1940s.

Paul owned and operated A&A Painting before his retirement. He enjoyed fishing and watching football and was a member of Batley Baptist Church.

Henrietta Ramsey Hendrickson

Henrietta Ramsey Hendrickson, age 90, of Knoxville, passed away Monday, Dec. 3.

She was born Dec. 18, 1921, in Morristown, the daughter of William Nelson Ramsey and Margaret Alice Robinette Ramsey.

Mrs. Hendrickson retired from Union Carbide Corporation, where she was a computer programmer and worked in the Radiation Shielding Information Center. She also worked as an intern for the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna, Austria.

She was a member of Glenwood Baptist Church, where she was the media center director, a member of the ’43 Club, the Canasta Club and a member of Clan Ramsey. She was also past president of the Oak Ridge AARP #625.

Bobbie Joan Bedford-Ballard

Bobbie Joan Bedford-Ballard, age 80, of Oak Ridge, passed away Friday, Nov. 30, at Methodist Medical Center.

She was born April 6, 1932, in Florence, Ala., the daughter of Robert A. and Myrtle Perkins Murphy.

Mrs. Bedford-Ballard retired from the Oak Ridge school system. She was among the first generation of teachers at the new Linden Elementary school. She loved teaching and gained great respect within the teaching community as well as the community at large. In addition to teaching, she spent time tutoring children and working with Anderson County Head Start. She also worked as a text book editor for the Smithsonian.
