Free concert Saturday by Oak Ridge Community Orchestra

A free concert by the Oak Ridge Community Orchestra on Saturday will feature Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony, the Brahms Tragic Overture, and the Bach Double Violin Concerto with two soloists.

The two soloists for the double violin concerto are Bree Miller and Ilia Steinschneider.

The concert starts at 2 p.m. in the sanctuary of the First Baptist Church, which is at the corner of the Oak Ridge Turnpike and LaFayette Drive. Although admission is free, charitable donations to support the orchestra’s routine operating expenses will be appreciated, a press release said.

TLC reality show features Lake City family with 19 children

A Lake City family that includes 19 children and an Anderson County Commissioner will be featured in a TLC reality show that begins tonight at 9 p.m.

The show is called the “United Bates of America” and will feature Lake City’s Bates family, according to WYSH Radio in Clinton. The family’s oldest son, Zach Bates, is an Anderson County commissioner.

Natti Love Joys show rescheduled for Aug. 24

A concert that was scheduled for tonight and expected to feature East Tennessee reggae band the Natti Love Joys has been rescheduled for Aug. 24, Oak Ridge Mayor Tom Beehan said.

The free shows are at A.K. Bissell Park in Oak Ridge.

Singer and songwriter Jenn Cristy, who graduated from Oak Ridge High School in 1997, played soul-infused pop rock during a Friday night concert at A.K. Bissell Park.

Cristy’s band, based in Bloomington, Ind., played mostly original songs, but also played some covers.

It was the fourth free concert in this year’s Secret City Sounds concert series, presented by the Arts Council of Oak Ridge and sponsored by the City of Oak Ridge.

A Teen Battle of the Bands will be held at the A.K. Bissell Park Pavilion at 6 p.m. Saturday.

If it rains, the battle will be moved to The Grove Theater.

Business owner Terry Frank, a candidate for Anderson County Mayor, will be hosting a concert on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Big Valley Barn, formerly Carl Bean’s Barn, in Clinton. The Parrot Brothers will be performing.

The Oak Ridge Community Band is having a free summer concert on August 5 at 7 p.m. at A.K. Bissell Park.

Lawn chairs or blankets are recommended for this outdoor concert. Razzleberry’s Ice Cream Lab will be there for refreshments.

Oak Ridge native and singer/songwriter Jenn Cristy will play at the next Secret City Sounds concert, this one scheduled for 7 p.m. July 27.

Food and refreshments will be available, and organizers recommend that concertgoers bring blankets or chairs for seating, said a press release from the Arts Council of Oak Ridge.

Anderson County Fair starts Sunday

The Anderson County Fair starts Sunday–a day earlier than normal–with Fairest of the Fair pageants at Anderson County High School. The “Tiny Miss” pageant starts at 2 p.m., and the Princess, Junior and Senior Division pageants at 7 p.m.

Admission prices for Sunday’s events will be $5 for adults, $2 for kids ages 6 through 12, and free for kids under 6.

The doors to the fair open in earnest at 5 p.m. Monday, according to WYSH Radio in Clinton. Daily events include more than 60 commercial vendors, 15 concession vendors, the Little Ponderosa Petting Zoo, three nightly shows by Danny Supermagic Boywonder, Living Heritage demonstrations, and a nightly cash giveaway.
