After receiving an anonymous tip, the Oak Ridge Police Department arrested a man who was wanted by the U.S. Marshals Service on Tuesday morning, authorities said.
Desmond Slater was wanted for violation of his federal supervised release, a City of Oak Ridge press release said. His original charge was being a felon in possession of a firearm.
The ORPD received an anonymous tip on Slater’s whereabouts at about 6 a.m. Tuesday, March 31, the press release said.
“The anonymous tipster stated Slater was hiding in a residence at 258 South Dillard Avenue,” the release said. “Several officers went to that location, made contact with a resident who informed them Mr. Slater was inside the residence, and received permission to enter the house to arrest Mr. Slater. Slater was found in a bedroom and upon initial contact with officers, he immediately tried to escape on foot through the living room.
“As officers tried to subdue him in the confined space, Mr. Slater continued to fight with officers from inside the residence to the front yard, where Slater was taken into custody.”
During the fight to subdue Slater outside the residence, one officer was bitten on his leg by a police dog, the release said. The officer was transported to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries, and Slater, who was also charged with evading arrest and resisting a lawful arrest, was transported to the Anderson County Detention Facility in Clinton without further incident.
More information will be added as it becomes available.
