The Tennessee Valley Corridor will hold its 20th Annual TVC National Summit in Johnson City at East Tennessee State University on May 27-28.
The Summit will be hosted by ETSU President Brian Noland, in cooperation with Congressman Phil Roe, with the theme “Education Fuels the TVC Economy.”
“From our region’s community colleges to our outstanding four-year universities, the Corridor has a strong foundation to prepare the next generation of the workforce,” Roe said. “As co-chairman of the Tennessee Valley Corridor Caucus, I look forward to sharing some of the work that is ongoing in Congress. The Summit will look at education from the business and industry perspective and discuss how to ensure the workforce has the skills they need to find quality jobs at home, and how our educational institutions can partner with businesses and organizations for better success, which is critical for us all to learn about.”
The Tennessee Valley Corridor includes 10 congressional districts in East and Middle Tennessee, North Alabama, western North Carolina, southwest Virginia and eastern Kentucky. The TVC’s mission is to sustain existing federal missions in the Valley, to compete for new missions, and to leverage those investments for private sector job growth. During the past 20 years, TVC summits have been held in the Tri Cities, Oak Ridge, Huntsville, Chattanooga, Asheville, Nashville, Murfreesboro, Washington, D.C., and Somerset, Kentucky.
The Summit will include sessions focused on Tri Cities, Oak Ridge, Huntsville, education, and workforce development throughout the Corridor, advanced manufacturing, growing the TVC economy, and a special look back at 20 years of the TVC.
“Bringing the Summit to ETSU’s campus provides an excellent venue to focus on how education impacts the economy in the Corridor through the perspective of the private sector,” Noland said. “We are all working to make this an outstanding event with a lineup of exceptional speakers, and I’m honored to partner with Congressman Roe and the TVC to host this event.”
For two decades, the TVC has brought together regional leadership at its annual Summits to build relationships and strong collaborations among federal institutions, world-class research universities, and dozens of corporate leaders in science and technology, said TVC Board Chairman Gerald Boyd.
“The TVC has helped showcase the Valley’s superior quality of life, as well as the people, business, natural and scientific resources needed for high-tech research, development, business, and investment in the 21st Century,” Boyd said.
The Tennessee Valley Corridor’s Leadership Council includes Y-12 National Security Complex, Appalachian Regional Commission, East Tennessee State University, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Tennessee Valley Authority, University of Tennessee, Alstom, NASA Marshall Space Flight Center, Oak Ridge Associated Universities, Siskin Steel, Tennessee Tech, and UCOR.
The TVC recently opened sponsorship opportunities for the Johnson City Summit. Sponsors for the 2015 National Summit in Johnson City already include Eastman, Milligan College, the Kingsport Chamber of Commerce, the Johnson City Chamber of Commerce, the Bristol Chamber of Commerce, BAE Systems, Cadre5, EnergySolutions, Mesa Associates, Stoller Newport News Nuclear, Tri Cities Regional Airport, and the University of Alabama in Huntsville.
