Oak Ridge Mayor Tom Beehan is representing Oak Ridge at the White House Maker Faire today (Wednesday). It’s part of the Mayors’ Maker Challenge, which the Oak Ridge City Council approved at the June 2 Council meeting.

Here’s an e-mail about it from the White House:

Tune in to the White House Maker Faire!

We’ve got another big first happening at the White House (Wednesday, June 18) and our guests are making a lot of things besides history.

President Obama will celebrate innovators, entrepreneurs, and tinkerers of all ages from across the country at the first-ever White House Maker Faire.

What do we mean by “Makers,” exactly?

New technologies such as 3D printers, laser cutters, and easy-to-use design software are enabling more Americans to make and build almost anything these days.

(The) Maker Faire will feature new and innovative projects, inventions, and designs that are sure to amaze—and some of these projects may very well create industries and jobs of the future.

And starting at 10 a.m. ET, you can watch the entire event live on a White House video feed here.

Tune in (Wednesday) and see how America’s students and entrepreneurs are using cutting-edge tools to invent the future.

Watch OK Go announce the White House Maker Faire.

P.S.—(Wednesday) will also be a National Day of Making, where communities across America will share and celebrate their involvement in the Maker Movement. Follow along on Twitter at #NationOfMakers to see some of the amazing work across the country.

The president is speaking on the live video feed now (about 12:05 p.m.). I saw Knoxville Mayor Madeline Rogero and Oak Ridge Mayor Tom Beehan in the audience.
