More than eight inches of snow fell in Oak Ridge starting Wednesday night and continuing into Thursday morning as a major winter storm hit the Southeast.
In a Wednesday night notice, the Anderson County Sheriff’s Department said all roads, including state routes and Interstate 75, are snow-covered and extremely hazardous. The Tennessee Department of Transportation is plowing and salting the roads, but the heavy snowfall was recovering the highways. The Sheriff’s Department is operating on a severe weather plan and will be patrolling in four-drive vehicles.
“We will be responding to emergency calls only,” the department said. The department urged residents to not travel. “Please stay home…and stay safe.”
