It’s that time of year again. With only a few months remaining for the 2013 calendar year, the city is excited to be gearing up to begin the end-of-year recruitment for board and commission members. The recruitment process begins Oct. 1.
This year’s process is similar to previous years in that interested residents must complete a Boards and Commissions application and may attach additional documents that includes cover letters, references, and resumes. The application allows residents to choose and rank their top three board choices for membership consideration.
“This is one of the most important ways in which citizens can become engaged in service to our community,†Oak Ridge City Manager Mark Watson said. “I join City Council members in encouraging residents to review the information on the website and consider applying for a position.â€
For convenience, an online application has been created and is available on the City Clerk’s departmental website or by visiting www.oakridgetn.gov/online/cityclerk/bcelections. Paper applications are also available in the City Clerk’s Office located in Room Number 109 in the Municipal Building.
To be considered, completed applications must be submitted to the City Clerk’s Office by 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 15; late applications or submissions will not be considered.
The election for all boards will take place at a special meeting of the Oak Ridge City Council on Monday, Dec. 16.
Interested residents can also visit the city’s website to learn about the different boards’ composition, purpose, meeting schedules, and review the special qualifications for membership to certain boards.
