Voters in Oliver Springs have rejected a liquor referendum that would have allowed retail package stores to sell alcoholic beverages.
The proposal failed 488-520, according to official certified results released after the Nov. 6 election. That’s a 48 percent to 52 percent vote margin.
Parts of Oliver Springs are in three counties: Anderson, Morgan, and Roane. The referendum passed 360-357 in Anderson County, but failed 126-162 in Roane County.
Three people cast ballots on it in Morgan County. Two voted yes, and one voted no.
The outcome had appeared too close to call on Election Night, particularly with provisional ballots uncounted at that time. Official results were certified later in November.
