Tennessee reported a record number of COVID-19 deaths and hospitalizations on Wednesday.
The Tennessee Department of Health reported 89 more deaths and 1,713 current hospitalizations (up by 79). That’s the most deaths ever reported in one day due to COVID-19 in Tennessee and the highest number of current hospitalizations.
The previous high number of deaths in one day in Tennessee was 78 on Friday, October 30.
The previous high number of current hospitalizations was 1,634 on Tuesday. And Monday (1,543) was the previous high before that.
The statewide positivity rate, 11.67 percent, remained high on Wednesday.
The state health department reported a total of 293,381 cases of COVID-19 in Tennessee since the pandemic began March 5, with 3,761 deaths.
In Anderson County, another hospitalization was reported on Tuesday, and another death was reported on Wednesday. The county has now had 2,206 cases of COVID-19, with 19 deaths and 56 total hospitalizations since the pandemic began March 20.
The growth in new cases in Anderson County and Tennessee is trending up again, with the numbers in October surpassing the earlier July peak. Nationally, the pandemic is much worse than ever in terms of cases, with new daily case counts over 100,000 per day. Hospitalizations have climbed for the third time, and deaths, which can lag cases and hospitalizations, are ticking back up.
In Tennessee, Roane County has reported 1,791 cases, with 11 deaths and 46 hospitalizations.
Knox County has had 15,088 cases, with 108 deaths and 504 hospitalizations.
