Turkey hunts in Oak Ridge in April will affect some greenways.
The spring turkey quota hunts in the Oak Ridge Wildlife Management Area are being held by the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency with help from the U.S. Department of Energy, City of Oak Ridge, Tennessee Valley Authority, and University of Tennessee. Hunters must have the appropriate TWRA hunt license and a valid quota hunt permit issued by TWRA.
“Designated hunting areas are closed to the public during scouting and hunting periods,” a press release said.
City-managed recreation areas that will be affected by the hunts include the North Boundary Greenway trails, Gallaher Bend Greenway, and Wheat Greenway. Haw Ridge Park is not included in the spring turkey hunt, the press release said.
Hunters will have access to the Oak Ridge Wildlife Management Area during the following times:
- Scout Date – April 6, 2024, from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. (permit holders and approved youths only)
- Hunt Dates – April 13 and 14, and April 20 and 21. Hunter access is allowed from 1 hour before sunrise to 1 p.m. on hunt days.
