Artificial intelligence policy and its societal implications will be discussed during a lunch in Oak Ridge on Tuesday.
The featured speaker at Lunch with the League will be Lynne E. Parker, associate vice chancellor and director of the AI Tennessee Initiative at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.
Lunch with the League is scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 5, at the Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church at 809 Oak Ridge Turnpike. It has been organized by the League of Women Voters of Oak Ridge, and it is open to the public.
You are welcome to bring a lunch or purchase a boxed lunch. Coffee and tea will be served. The presentation will begin at noon.
A press release said Parker served various roles in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy for four years from 2018-2022. This included serving as founding director of the National Artificial Intelligence Initiative Office, deputy chief technology officer of the United States, and assistant director of artificial intelligence.
At the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, she has served as interim dean of the Tickle College of Engineering, associate dean for faculty affairs and engagement in the Tickle College of Engineering, and professor of electrical engineering and computer science. She also previously served at National Science Foundation as division director of information and intelligent systems.
She spent several years at Oak Ridge National Laboratory as a distinguished research and development staff member.
She received her doctorate in computer science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
