Information from WYSH Radio

Anderson County 71, Clinton 43: Stanton Martin completed 20 of 24 passes Friday night for 420 yards and seven touchdowns, while also adding 56 yards and a touchdown on the ground as the Mavericks capitalized on defensive breakdowns for several big plays on their way to an eighth straight win in the Crosstown Showdown with Clinton. The Mavericks have now won in 17 of the last 18 games.

Three different Maverick receivers caught two touchdowns each: Caleb Bethel (nine catches for 157 yards), Thyshaud Thrasher (five catches for 98 yards), and Michael Carroll, two catches for 99 yards. Everette Dews caught the seventh scoring strike.

Mason Phillips also had a strong offensive game for Anderson County as he tallied 125 rushing yards and two touchdowns. The Mavericks racked up 604 yards of total offense.

Clinton was led by Luke Harrison, who completed 31 of 46 passes for 327 yards, an interception and two touchdowns to J’Quan Thomas, who had 16 catches for 237 yards. Thomas also scored on the ground and intercepted a pass on defense. Billy Long paced Clinton’s ground game with 108 yards and two touchdowns. The Dragons amassed 492 yards of offense.

Clinton scored first on a field goal by Garrett Zody, but then the Mavericks reeled off 27 straight points to take a 27-3 lead early in the second quarter. The Dragon offense finally found its rhythm and pulled to within 36-20 at halftime. The third quarter saw Clinton rally back to within 36-33 with 9:01 to play, but the big play parade for AC kept on going and the Mavericks were able to pull away.

Clinton Coach Josh Kerr had a police escort with him on the sidelines and immediately after the game after rumors began circulating that disgruntled fans planned to confront him about the team’s recent struggles.
