The Oak Ridge Lady Wildcats advanced to the Region 2-AAA semifinal behind the game-high 21 points of sophomore Mykia Dowdell and a 58-32 win over Heritage at Wildcat Arena on Friday.

It’s the second time this week a Lady Wildcat has scored 21 points in a playoff game. On Tuesday, it was freshman Jada Guinn, in the District 3-AAA championship. On Friday, it was Dowdell in a Region 2-AAA elimination quarterfinal.

It’s the first time the Lady Wildcats (25-4) have advanced to the regional semifinals since 2010, according to broadcaster David Clary.

Oak Ridge will play play William Blount (23-9) at Bearden at 6 p.m. Monday.

In the meantime, in the boys’ playoffs, the Wildcats will host Farragut in a Region 2-AAA elimination quarterfinal at 7 p.m. Saturday at Wildcat Arena.

Dowdell scored her 800th career point on Friday night, according to Clary. She scored 19 of her 21 points in the second half and was 7-of-9 from the free throw line.

Guinn had another big night for Oak Ridge, the number one seed in District 3, scoring 14 points, including eight in the second quarter. Senior Caelyn Thompson added eight points on the night.

Heritage junior post Maddie Sutton led the Lady Mountaineers (17-18), the number four seed in District 4, with 15 points. No other Heritage player scored more than five.

In other quarterfinal games on Friday, Bearden, the District 4 champion, beat Anderson County, the number four seed in District 3, 81-37. Bearden will play Hardin Valley in the other Region 2-AAA semifinal at Bearden at 7:30 p.m. Monday.

Hardin Valley, the number three seed in District 4, advanced by defeating Campbell County, the District 3 runner-up, 44-41.

William Blount, the District 4 runner-up, moved on to the semifinal against Oak Ridge by beating Powell, the number three seed in District 3, 85-52.

More information will be added as it becomes available.
