Prudden, former girls basketball coach, to be inducted into TSSAA Hall of Fame

Jill Prudden, former girls basketball coach at Oak Ridge High School, will be inducted into the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association Hall of Fame in April.

Prudden was head girls basketball coach at Oak Ridge High School for 31 seasons. Her 908 wins rank third in the state. She led the team to three TSSAA state championships (1988, 1994, and 1997) and 21 TSSAA state tournament appearances.

Prudden retired from coaching in 2010 and is currently teaching at Robertsville Middle School.

Here is more information from a press release, including the names and additional information on all nine inductees.

HERMITAGE—The 2016 TSSAA Hall of Fame inductees have been selected. Nine new members will be inducted into the TSSAA Hall of Fame at the annual luncheon at the Embassy Suites Hotel and Conference Center in Murfreesboro on Saturday, April 9.

Three administrators, three coaches, two officials, and one contributor will be inducted that day to join others in the annual gathering of those selected since the process began in 1982.

Those being inducted at this year’s luncheon are:

  • B.O. “Bo” Booth, administrator from Dyer;
  • L.E. “Lee” Clayborne, administrator from Columbia;
  • Ed Foster, administrator from Ooltewah;
  • Clint Satterfield, coach from Hartsville;
  • the late Ken Netherland, coach from Memphis;
  • Jill Prudden, coach from Oak Ridge;
  • Henry Phillips, official from Lawrenceburg;
  • Joel Pierce, official from Elizabethton; and
  • Allen Richardson, contributor from Murfreesboro.

The Hall of Fame luncheon will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 9. The luncheon is to not only honor the new inductees and their families, but to honor all past inductees into the TSSAA Hall of Fame. Tickets will go on sale on Monday, March 7. You may purchase the tickets at $25 each by visiting www.tssaa.org. Please print off the ticket form and mail it to our office along with a check or money order. All ticket orders will be available for pick-up on the day of the luncheon. There will be no ticket sales at the door.

B.O. “Bo” Booth—Educator and administrator for 39 years in West Tennessee; served 28 of those years as principal and athletic director at Gibson County High School after being at Dyer High School for a short time; Gibson County High School gymnasium is named in his honor; retired in 2007.

L.E. “Lee” Clayborne—Spent his entire career at Columbia Central High School; began coaching at Columbia in 1966, and has coached everything but softball, baseball, and golf; took over as athletic director at Columbia Central in 1982 when fellow TSSAA Hall of Famer Jim Cartwright resigned; served as the athletic director for nearly 30 years before retiring in 2010.

Ed Foster—Administrator and coach from East Tennessee; served as a principal for nearly 25 years at East Ridge High School and Ooltewah High School; served on the TSSAA Legislative Council from 1995-2009, and was president for five years and vice president for six; has served as the executive director of the Tennessee Association of Secondary School Principals (TASSP) since 2009.

Clint Satterfield—Has spent his entire career in the Trousdale County school system; served as the head football coach at Trousdale County High School for 24 years, winning five state championships (1990, 1993, 1997, 1998, 2005); also served as the head football coach at Satterfield Middle School (named after his father) for 17 years; his father, Jim Satterfield, was inducted into the TSSAA Hall of Fame in 1987; retired from coaching in 2007; currently serves as director of schools in Trousdale County.

The late Ken Netherland—Football coach in West Tennessee for nearly 40 years; had stints at Hillcrest, Germantown, St. George’s, and Lausanne high schools; won two TSSAA state championships (Germantown in 1983 and St. George’s in 2007); second-winningest coach in TSSAA history with 368 wins and 31st nationally for all-time coaching victories.

Henry Phillips—Registered official with TSSAA since 1967 in volleyball, basketball, softball, and baseball; has served as a volleyball assigning officer since 1994 and as a baseball and softball assigning officer since 2008; has served as the site coordinator at Blackman High School for the TSSAA State Volleyball championships since 2004.

Joel Pierce—Registered TSSAA official for 48 years in baseball, football, basketball, and softball; has served as an assigning officer in Northeast Tennessee in those same sports since 1967 and is in that role currently; worked the TSSAA State Baseball tournament in 1991 and the TSSAA State Football championships in 1992.

Allen Richardson—Has assisted the TSSAA with its state golf championships in some capacity since 1987; held rules meetings for competitors at the state tournament for years; set up and organized region tournaments across the state; in 1998 began directing the entire TSSAA state golf championship including marking the course, obtaining rules officials, and holding coaches’ meetings; since 1999 has traveled across the state to conduct TSSAA rules meetings for high school golf coaches.
