CLAXTON—A Powell motorcyclist died Wednesday afternoon in a four-vehicle crash on Edgemoor Road in front of the Bull Run Fossil Plant, authorities said.
Kenneth Lubthisophon, 55, was riding east on Edgemoor Road at about 4:41 p.m. Wednesday when he hit the left rear of a car driven by a 54-year-old Knoxville woman who was slowing down for stopped traffic, the Tennessee Highway Patrol said.
Lubthisophon’s 1989 Honda G15 was then hit from behind by a pickup truck driven by a 25-year-old Clinton man, and Lubthisophon was thrown from the motorcycle into the westbound traffic lane, where he was hit by a second pickup truck driven by a 70-year-old Clinton man, according to a preliminary THP report.
Lubthisophon was wearing a helmet, the report said.
There were no other injuries. No citations were issued, and no criminal charges were filed, the THP said.
The accident was investigated by THP Trooper Joseph Brown.
Anderson County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Mark Lucas said the roadway was closed from about 4:45 p.m. to 9:15 p.m. while THP investigated. Officers diverted traffic through the parking lot at the Bull Run Fossil Plant.
Besides THP and the Sheriff’s Department, the Claxton Fire Department, Anderson County Rescue Squad, and Anderson County EMS also responded. The Tennessee Department of Transportation helped reroute traffic, and the Oak Ridge Police Department helped with traffic control as well.
More information will be added as it becomes available.

John, what camera do you use? Your photographer skills is absolutely amazing. I find myself coming here more and more for the photos you provide. Thank you.

Thank you, Raymond.
I use a point-and-shoot right now, a Nikon L120. I’m looking at switching to a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200 fixed-aperture “mega zoom” camera. It’s what B&H Photo in NYC recommends for what we’re doing, a mix of press conferences and meetings, still photos, police and fire, sporting events, and some low-light pics.
We switched to larger photos in stories a while back. (You used to have click on the photo to get the larger image.) Do you like the change to larger photos?
Raymond Charles Kircher says
Absolutely, it brings a larger connection to the stories.
